Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, has admitted his side need to improve their attitude ahead of their Champions League tie against Manchester United on Tuesday.
Thomas Tuchel’s men are currently 13 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a game in hand on second-placed Lille and have largely been uncontested domestically this season.
Can PSG get past Manchester United? Four key things to know…
- Paris Saint-Germain face Manchester United in the last-16 of the Champions League.
- The French champions were made early favourites for the tie but it is more evenly matched following United’s revival.
- PSG’s commanding lead at the top of Ligue 1 has allowed Thomas Tuchel’s men to take their foot off the gas in recent matches.
- But Buffon insists his side need to improve their attitude as they prepare to face United on Tuesday.
PSG eased past Bordeaux 1-0 on Saturday with Edinson Cavani scoring the only goal from the penalty spot. But, despite the win, Buffon was not happy with the way his team-mates played.
“Apart from the win, I didn’t like the game,” he told reporters.
“I think we have to improve in terms of mentality, attitude and the spirit of sacrifice for the team.
“A very important game is waiting for us on Tuesday. We have to play a big match. To play against this team, you need to be stronger, more solid, with a different attitude.”
When the draw was first made in December, many expected PSG to be firm favourites for the tie, with United struggling under Jose Mourinho at the time.

But the Portuguese was sacked shortly after and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Norwegian overseeing a spectacular change in form at Old Trafford.
At the same time, PSG have been hit with a handful of injuries to key players, with Neymar and Thomas Meunier both injured and Cavani a doubt.
And Buffon believes the two teams are evenly matched going into Tuesday.
He added: “Are we favourites? No, I think we’re level, it’s 50-50.”
PSG team news ahead of Man Utd tie
PSG may have still fancied their chances of getting the better of Manchester United, even without their record-signing, Neymar.
But the French side were handed another blow at the weekend as second-highest scorer Cavani lasted just 45 minutes in the win over Bordeaux.
And, speaking to reporters, PSG manager Tuchel was not confident about Cavani’s chances of facing United.
“There’s no good news for Edi this morning. He had some tests and there will be more to come.
“My feeling is that it’s going to be very difficult for him to play. We have to wait a little bit more, but the club will communicate on this later today. I think the news will not be very good.
“[There is a] very small hope, but the first tests were not good.”
