Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rubbished rumours of a bust-up with Jordan Henderson, dismissing it as ‘bullsh*t’.
The Reds boss was involved in a heated touchline exchange with his captain after bringing Henderson off during the 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
What happened between Klopp and Henderson? Five things you need to know…
- Liverpool drew 0-0 with arch-rivals Man Utd on Sunday.
- Klopp decided to replace Reds captain, Henderson, with Xherdan Shaqiri after 72 minutes.
- As Henderson left the field, he and his manager were involved in a heated exchange and didn’t shake hands.
- Rumour has spread that the pair are embroiled in a bust-up.
- Klopp has dismissed this speculation as ‘bullsh*t’.
This led to some speculation that the pair had been involved in a bust-up – speculation which Klopp has described as ‘bullsh*t’, insisting it was a ‘pure misunderstanding’.
“I could have shouted, but Hendo wasn’t even there. He was being drug tested,” the German told the media.
“Nothing. It’s bullsh*t. Nothing happened after the game, we were completely fine.
“We spoke about the game and the opportunity we had, things we did, and then we drove home.”
As Henderson left the Old Trafford pitch, he and Klopp failed to shake hands, although the former Dortmund boss has also cleared this incident up, insisting he was too busy giving instructions to Xherdan Shaqiri, who was replacing the England international.
“In terms of the situation, it was a pure misunderstanding. That’s clear. For me, when a player leaves the pitch, it’s clear, we shake hands,” Klopp added.
“But I’m in the situation as well. I didn’t say you have to wait for me until I look at you again as I was with Shaq talking and then Hendo left. He was saying thank you to the crowd.
“I thought he didn’t [go to shake hands] and that’s why I turned and told him to [come back and shake my hand].
“But everyone else told me, ‘No, no, no, he wanted to shake your hand but you were not ready’. That’s how a misunderstanding works. That’s all. It was nothing.”

Klopp hopeful of Firmino fitness
Brazilian forward, Roberto Firmino, was replaced after just 31 minutes of Liverpool’s clash with Man Utd on Sunday, with the 27-year-old rolling his ankle early in the game.
However, Klopp is hopeful his striker will be ready in time for their clash with Watford on Wednesday evening and assured Liverpool fans Firmino has a ‘big chance’ to play in Sunday’s Merseyside derby.
“It looks good. We were obviously lucky,” said Klopp. “It was not as serious as we thought at first.
“If Bobby goes down and leaves the pitch it is always a bad sign because he is a pretty hard boy.
“Because we play tomorrow, it will be very close for that, but he has a big chance for the derby.”
