Has Cesc Fabregas just invented a new way of passing the ball?

Cesc Fabregas appears to have invented a new way of passing the ball during Monaco’s 2-0 victory over Lyon.

Goals from Gelson Martins and Rony Lopes ensured the three points for the principality team, taking the previously under pressure club to 16th, five points above the relegation zone.

However in the Ligue 1 game, Fabregas appeared to purposefully (or accidentally) concoct a new way of passing.

Fabregas traps a pass under his left boot and, using downward pressure down the back of the ball – though without kicking it – he manages to guide it to Aleksandr Golovin, who is able to run with the ball at the Lyon half.

There is a degree uncertainty as to whether the Spaniard meant it, however.

“Do you doubt his genius?” – Fans react to Fabregas’ new pass

Not everyone’s sure just how purposeful the new pass was, but it’s safe to say everyone’s impressed nonetheless…

Some want their passing midfielder to emulate the Spaniard…

While others just can’t believe the pass.

Fabregas’ impact at Monaco

The former Chelsea and Barcelona man got his move to France on 11 January, moving at first for free but with performance-based bonuses built into the deal. However less than two weeks later Thierry Henry was sacked on 24 January as a result of an incredibly disappointing season, but results have improved since.

But Fabregas’ arrival at Monaco has generally coincided with an uptick in results for the Mediterranean club, with Monaco especially improving in February.

So far the midfielder has been a part of two draws, two losses and thee wins in the league, compared this with the three wins the club had all season in 19 games.

The centre-midfielder has scored twice for his new club, enjoying a passing success rate of 84.8% and making 1.9 key passes a game.

As was the idea behind his signing, Fabregas has proven helpful for his side in maintaining possession alongside the likes of Jemerson or Adrien Silva, and playing in his more attacking teammates, perhaps disproving suggestion his career is over just yet.
