Liverpool warned about Gylfi Sigurdsson by Everton boss Marco Silva

Everton boss Marco Silva has warned Liverpool about the club’s resurgent playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The two Merseyside club’s battle it out in the Premier League this Sunday at Goodison Park.

Sigurdsson back to his best? Five things you need to know…

  1. Everton signed Sigurdsson from former Premier League side Swansea City for £40 million in 2017.
  2. On his debut, Sigurdsson scored his first goal for the club with an impressive 50-yard strike in the Europa League.
  3. The Icelandic international has made 64 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 18 goals.
  4. Before last night’s match against Cardiff City, Everton had won only three of their previous 14 Premier League matches.
  5. However, two goals from Sigurdsson against the Welsh outfit helped secure three points in their 3-0 victory.

The 29-year old has scored 11 Premier League goals for Everton this season – already matching his highest ever total in the division – and looks to be in hot-form as Everton host title-chasing Liverpool this weekend.

Speaking to reporters, club boss Silva has warned that his number 10 is in dangerous form and is planning on continuing in the same vein against the Reds

Silva said: “All of you are seeing a different Sigurdsson this season.

“You will see, in the next match against Liverpool, Gylfi playing with more confidence.”

“You always want to win these games”

Sigurdsson himself is already anticipating a tough clash against the club’s city rivals.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side intent on winning their first Premier League trophy in 29 years, the Iceland international insists that the club always want to beat Liverpool, whether they are chasing the title or not.

When asked if Everton would want to dent Liverpool’s title hopes, Sigurdsson said: “Of course, yes.

“But it doesn’t matter where they are in the league.

“You always want to win these games, especially after the disappointing ending to the game the last time we played them.

“To lose a derby game like that, being so close to a good point away from home, was very disappointing.

“These are the games you are looking forward to before the season starts.”

Sigurdsson has a solid record against Liverpool. In 14 appearances against the Anfield club he has been on the winning side five times, scored four goals and assisted another. If his manager’s comments are correct, he could well add to that tally this weekend.
