Marco Reus: ‘You won’t see me playing for Bayern Munich’

Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus has promised not to join rivals Bayern Munich.

In the past Dortmund have seen key players Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels make the switch to Bavaria, with Reus the latest to be linked.

Will Marco Reus leave Dortmund? Five key things to know…

  1. Marco Reus is enjoying another successful season with Borussia Dortmund.
  2. The German forward has scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga this season, helping the club to lead the division after 18 games.
  3. As a result, he has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, who are actively looking for new wingers ahead of next season.
  4. Dortmund have previously seen the likes of Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels make the switch to Bayern.
  5. But Reus has made a promise to Dortmund fans that he will not be leaving for Bayern.

The 30-year-old joined Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 and has been a key player for the club since, helping them lead the Bundesliga this season.

As has been the case with other Dortmund stars, Reus has previously been linked with a move to Germany’s most-successful side Bayern Munich.

But the forward has reiterated he has no plans of joining the defending Bundesliga champions.

“You won’t see me playing at Bayern, I promise,” he told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“Also I’m nearly 30 years old and they want to rejuvenate their squad.”

Despite Reus playing as a centre-forward in Dortmund this season, the German international has spent a lot of his career playing as a winger – a position Bayern are actively searching for.

With Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery set to leave the club in the summer, bringing to an end highly successful spells in Bavaria, Bayern will need to bolster their wings to build for the future.

The club have been heavily linked with Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi in recent weeks with reports also emerging Bayern tried to sign Christian Pulisic from Dortmund before his move to Chelsea was confirmed.

Reus confident Dortmund can win Bundesliga

In a break from the recent norm, Dortmund currently lead the way at the top of the Bundesliga, sitting six points clear of second-placed Bayern.

Lucien Favre’s men have lost just once in the league so far, winning 14 times including a 3-2 victory over Bayern early in the season.

With 16 games to go, the race is still very much on for the Bundesliga title, but Reus has belief his team-mates can go all the way.

“It’s in our hands, we have to take each game like the first of the season and then we’ll have a chance,” he added.
