Manchester United have been warned there could be a “mutiny” on their hands if caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t get the managerial job on a full-time basis this summer.
The Norwegian has started his tenure at Old Trafford in fantastic form and has established himself as one of the more likely candidates to get the full-time manager’s job at the end of the season.
What has OGS done to earn the job? Five things you need to know…
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from former boss Jose Mourinho in December.
- Since then, United have won eight and drawn twice in the Premier League.
- They have scored 30 goals in 14 games under Solskjaer’s guidance across all competitions.
- United have also stormed back into the race for a Champions League place, sitting just a point behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
- The Red Devils are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup – having beaten Arsenal and Chelsea away – where they will face Wolves.
Speaking on Sky Sports following their coverage of United’s tough 0-0 draw against arch-rivals Liverpool, former club defender Gary Neville discussed the possibility of whether his former teammate will ultimately get the United job on a permanent basis this summer.
With United’s squad seemingly loving life under their new coach, Neville believes the club will potentially have a “mutiny” on their hands if they decide to look elsewhere for the managerial position at the end of the campaign.
Neville said: “There would be mutiny if Solskjaer is not given the full-time Manchester United job.
“The mood has completely transformed – the atmosphere was one of the best I’ve seen at Old Trafford for years and it was 0-0! If Manchester United had scored it would have been incredible.”

A few weeks to secure his position?
If Solskjaer still hasn’t convinced his doubters that he is the right man to take the United job on a full-term contract, then maybe the next few weeks will be the deciding factor as to whether he will get his reward.
Two Premier League fixtures against Crystal Palace and Southampton present opportunities for United to build upon their impressive form in recent months that has seen them acquire 26 out of 30 available points in the last 10 Premier League games.
A second leg Champions League round-of-16 match away to Paris Saint-Germain – where United are currently 2-0 down – won’t be held against Solskjaer due to the quality that the oil-rich French outfit have in their ranks.
However, after that United face another away trip to Arsenal – they beat the Gunners 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round at the Emirates – and a FA Cup quarter-final away to Wolves. Should the Red Devils win both matches, surely the United board will have no choice but to offer their caretaker boss the ultimate prize.
