Thierry Henry was reportedly close to becoming Aston Villa’s new manager last month. But instead of the Championship, he is managing in the Champions League with Monaco.
Leonardo Jardim’s dismissal following a dismal start to the season saw Henry drafted in at Stade Louis II, in the hope that his impact as Belgium assistant could be repeated as a club coach.
With the likes of Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola as his mentors, Henry has the potential to be a first-rate manager if he has gleaned the right attributes from those masters of the craft.
Leonardo Jardim's managerial record at Monaco:
• 232 games
• 125 wins
• 52 draws
• 55 losses
• 1 Ligue 1 title
• 1 Ligue 1 Manager of the YearA great tenure. pic.twitter.com/MCmKFNF9gX

Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out so far. Under Henry, Monaco have gone five games without a win, including the midweek 4-0 home defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League.
In an attempt to draw some conclusions, we’ve taken a look at the statistics behind exactly what is going wrong for the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker.
Here are the seven most damning stats behind Henry’s troubled start to life at Monaco.
1. Monaco’s winless run extended to 15 games
Monaco are on a 15 game winless streak, a run that stretches back to August:

When Henry arrived at Monaco he was tasked with ending a run of 10 matches without a win across all competitions. Instead, he has extended it to 15 matches, of which Monaco have drawn five and lost 10.
They haven’t been on a longer winless run since failing to win 16 games in a row between September 1968 and January 1969.
2. Lowest ever points tally after 12 matches
Monaco have collected just one point from Henry’s first three Ligue 1 games in charge, taking their total tally up to seven points from 12 matches. That’s the fewest points they’ve had after 12 games in their top-flight history.
Currently 19th in Ligue 1, Monaco are already 18 points behind third-placed Lille. They need a major turnaround if they are to challenge for the Champions League places.
3. No clean sheets

Henry is yet to experience a clean sheet as Monaco boss. His side have conceded ten goals across five games, a continuation of the poor defensive form that preceded the new manager.
Indeed, Monaco have kept only one clean sheet in Ligue 1 all season, fewer than any other side.
4. Four goals from 53 shots

With Monaco’s defence struggling to keep opponents out, the attack must improve. There have been no signs of that under Henry so far, despite 53 shots attempted in five matches.
The problem is only four of those 53 shots – a meagre 7.5% – have resulted in goals. They have managed 20 shots on target but Monaco must be more clinical.
5. Heaviest home defeat in the Champions League/European Cup

Monaco’s 4-0 home humbling at the hands of Club Brugge on Tuesday was the club’s heaviest ever home defeat in the Champions League or European Cup.
It was a must-win game for Henry, whose side find themselves bottom of Group A with just one point. They are now playing for a Europa League spot, but upcoming games against Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund spell more disappointment.
6. New Champions League goals conceded record set
Against Club Brugge, Monaco became the first French team to concede three goals in the opening 25 minutes of a home match in the Champions League.
The hosts produced some dreadful defending and were all too easily torn apart by Brugge. It felt like the game was over before it started.
7. Fastest red card for a Ligue 1 substitute in over three years
2015 -Samul Grandsir is the fastest substitute to get sent off in Ligue 1 (1 minute & 51 seconds) since Benjamin Mendy (47 seconds) in September 2015 with Marseille v Toulouse. Jinx. pic.twitter.com/e2U7nImVVM

Bad luck has played its part in Henry’s tribulations at Monaco so far. For example, when he sent on Samuel Grandsir in his first game against Strasbourg, he didn’t expect the substitute to see red within two minutes.
It was the fastest Ligue 1 dismissal in almost three years, which is indicative of the misfortune Henry is currently running into.
