The Premier League have confirmed Mike Dean has been appointed referee for the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Third-placed Spurs will travel to the Emirates this Sunday with Unai Emery’s side keeping their eyes on their rivals as they look above from fifth position.
Why are Arsenal fans so annoyed? Five things you need to know
- Mike Dean has taken charge of 65 Arsenal matches and 63 Tottenham games.
- Arsenal have won 28 of games led by Mike Dean with Spurs winning 29.
- Dean has given Arsenal 120 yellow cards and six red cards in total, averaging 1.84 yellows and a red almost every 10 games.
- He has given Tottenham 105 yellow cards and four red cards in total, averaging 1.66 yellows and 0.06 red cards.
- Dean has awarded the two sides the following amount of penalties: Spurs – 10 in 58 matches, one every 5.80 games. Arsenal – 3 in 64 matches, one every 21.33 games.
The last time Dean was the referee of a North London Derby was just last season in the same fixture at the Emirates, when Arsenal defeated Tottenham 2-0 thanks to goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez.
In fact, the last three times Dean has taken charge of the fixture Arsenal have come out on top, with Spurs not winning a North London Derby refereed by Dean since October 2, 2011 at White Hart Lane, when Rafael van der Vaart and Kyle Walker cancelled out an Aaron Ramsey strike.
Spurs have only won one of six North London Derbies with Dean in charge.
Despite this, the appointment of Dean to officiate the match has not gone down too well with Arsenal fans who believe that they never get the luck of the draw with Dean in charge and that he has, in their opinion, produced far too many mistakes when taking charge of Arsenal fixtures.
How did Arsenal fans react to Dean’s appointment?
Ahahaha of course it had to be Mike Dean

Of course he has. They got to give him one more chance to screw Arsenal before they introduce VAR next season.

However, Tottenham fans seem to be in disbelief over Arsenal fans’ concerns, believing that it is, in fact, them who have been on the wrong end of Dean’s decisions.
Mike Dean was in charge last year and made 2 mistakes which led to 2 Arsenal goals… so why are Arsenal fans saying Tottenham win confirmed?? Weirdos

Well that’s the excuses ready.

Mike Dean was all over Arsenal last year, and he gave two penalties against us in the same game 3 weeks ago, but you lot get all your whinging in now as if he’s a Spurs fan and it’s some level of corruption.
