Surprise change from Tuchel? How everyone expects Liverpool & PSG to line up tonight

PSG and Liverpool are to play out a crucial Champions League encounter in their penultimate group match on Wednesday.

Liverpool know that a win in Paris is likely to see them through to the last 16 and, unless Red Star Belgrade avoid defeat against Napoli, Thomas Tuchel’s side could be on their way out of the competition.

The first encounter between these two teams ended in a 3-2 Liverpool win and was a fascinating tactical battle between Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, two managers that know each other well.

Injury-wise, PSG have been boosted by news that both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are both fit to start after both picked up injuries whilst on international duty last Tuesday.

As for Liverpool, Sadio Mane seems to have overcome a bout of illness and should be fine to play, but Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke did not travel to Paris on Tuesday.

“I got a message yesterday (Monday) that Divock (Origi), Sadio (Mane) and Kamil (Grabara) were ill,” Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website on Tuesday.

“They came in and we checked them again – Sadio trained today (Tuesday) as normal and is available.”

The Liverpool boss added: “Adam Lallana is back in training on Thursday, but that is obviously after the game.

“The issue is nothing anymore because he is on the way back; it was a minor muscle thing and nothing serious.

“Dom (Solanke) has a little groin issue, it happened in training.”

Both managers have much to consider as they select their line-ups and so we’ve rounded up the rumoured and predicted XIs from other publications ahead of a hugely exciting encounter at the Parc des Princes.

A Di Maria gamble? How everyone expects Liverpool and PSG to line up tonight

There have been many rumoured XIs bandied around for both sides, particularly PSG, with Tuchel knowing that something has to change from the first match between these two sides if the Ligue 1 champions are to get the better of Klopp’s team on Wednesday.

We think that Marquinhos will line up in midfield for PSG, just as he did in the game between both of these teams at Anfield in September.

We’ve also backed Fabinho to return to the Liverpool team after being named on the bench for the Reds’ win at Watford.

The Times published predicted XIs for both sides on Wednesday morning and suggest that Angel Di Maria could play as a wing-back in a 3-4-3 system for the home side.

They have also tipped Joe Gomez and James Milner to return to Liverpool’s team at the expense of Dejan Lovren and Xherdan Shaqiri after both were left out against Watford.

The general feeling in France on Wednesday was that Thomas Tuchel was set to move away from the 3-4-3 system that has worked so well for PSG in recent weeks.

French outlet RMC believe that the French champions will revert to a back four, with Thilo Kehrer playing at right-back and Marquinhos in midfield.

Meanwhile, the Irish Mirror have tipped Klopp to go with a back four of Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk and Robertson, despite Gomez’s return to fitness.

Theri predicted XI is as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner; Mane, Salah, Firmino.
