Premier League predictions for all 10 matches this gameweek

The Premier League is getting ready for another blockbuster gameweek of football.

Things start on Friday with Wolves travelling to Cardiff for a clash of promoted sides. Saturday sees Champions Manchester City host Bournemouth, whilst Manchester United travel to the south coast to take on Southampton.

Meanwhile on Sunday we have a trio of derbies as Chelsea and Fulham go head-to-head before the North London Derby between Arsenal and Spurs, then the weekend closes out with the Merseyside Derby at Anfield.

We’ve had a look at the fixtures and had two of the Squawka team come up with predictions:

Cardiff vs. Wolves

Muhammad Butt: Wolves are in something of a freefall right now and the potential for them to collapse under Nuno Espirito Santo’s leadership is very real (as anyone who remembers his time at Valencia could tell you). Cardiff, meanwhile, are starting to figure this league out. 1-0 Cardiff.

Will Eldridge: Neil Warnock’s side have won two of their last five Premier League games but haven’t kept a clean sheet since 25th August. Wolves are in bad form and haven’t won in five games but should have the quality to test the hosts who will play with the same intensity that Warnock thrives on. 2-1 Cardiff.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Callum Paterson has scored three goals in five games for Cardiff, two of which came in home victories.

Manchester City vs. Bournemouth

MB: Bournemouth are playing well this season but they’re walking into the hall of the mountain king up in Manchester. City are a phenomenal side who will likely cut the Cherries to pieces. 4-0 City.

WE: It’s would take a very brave individual to bet against Pep Guardiola’s side, especially when they are playing at home. They have scored 21 goals against the Cherries in their last six encounters. Bournemouth are a good side as their league position suggests but I just can’t bring myself to back them on Saturday, I’ll give them a goal though because I’m nice. 3-1 City.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Sergio Aguero has scored four goals in four games against Eddie Howe’s men and already has eight league goals this season.

Crystal Palace vs. Burnley

MB: Crystal Palace haven’t won in their last eight games and Burnley will rock up to London without a win in six. This could lead to a fun, open game but will more likely end up with a tight, cagey affair in which both sides are happy to pick up a point. 1-1 draw.

WE: The Eagles are yet to win at home all season – in fact they haven’t done so since last season’s final match against relegated West Brom – but Palace aren’t playing terribly like today’s visitors who may struggle with the trip to Selhurst Park. 2-0 Palace.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Aaron Wan-Bissaka attempts an average of 4.3 tackles per match and has won on average 4.1 of them across 90 minutes, making him almost impossible to beat down Palace’s right-hand side.

Huddersfield vs. Brighton

MB: Brighton have lost two of their last three whilst Huddersfield have won two of their last three. When you look at it like that then Brighton’s superior team on paper may not end up counting for much; although Glenn Murray will surely score. 2-1 Huddersfield.

WE: David Wagner’s side have come into a bit of form of late having gone three games unbeaten – including two wins against Wolves and Fulham – but they rarely score many. For Brighton, they haven’t scored more than one goal in the league since 17th September away to Southampton. 1-1 draw.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Philip Billing averages a booking nearly every three games – winning 2.8 of 3.8 tackles on average per match – so expect him to pick up a yellow card in this competitive fixture.

Leicester vs. Watford

MB: Leicester have settled into a comfortable rhythm as a consistent mid-table side (that absurdly won the title three years ago) and it’s not likely that a ramshackle Watford side will have the quality needed to knock them off at home. 3-1 Leicester.

WE: 10th vs 9th go head-to-head with Javi Gracia having just signed a new contract extension at the Hornets. Leicester haven’t lost since October 22nd whereas Watford are coming into this off the back of a 3-0 defeat to high-flying Liverpool. Expect a close match. 2-1 Leicester.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Wes Morgan wins 4.8 aerial duels per-90 minutes and makes 5.9 clearances in his best efforts to keep a clean sheet for the Foxes, so don’t expect much to get past him.

Newcastle vs. West Ham

MB: West Ham have to travel up north and whilst they will have confidence in their abilities, the fact is West Ham have won just once in their last seven games and what’s more they have lost on each of their last three visits to St. James’ Park. 2-1 Newcastle.

WE: Rafa Benitez is working wonders with the Magpies of late, winning three matches on the bounce. The Hammers seem to be struggling at the back, having not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since their 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea. Either a 5-5 thriller or a boring 0-0.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Declan Rice can be expected to run the game in the middle of the park for West Ham, with his pass success rate of 86.6% far better than any Newcastle player.

Southampton vs. Manchester United

MB: Manchester United will play poorly against Southampton. Then in the second half José Mourinho will make some tweaks, maybe a sub or two, and The Red Devils will pull a win out of the bag. Probably via Anthony Martial or Marouane Fellaini. 1-2 United.

WE: Will former Manchester United striker Mark Hughes lose his job if he comes up short once again for Southampton? Jose Mourinho will be looking to rectify United’s form of late with both managers coming under increasing pressure to deliver. Bye bye Hughesy: 1-3 United.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Anthony Martial averages a Premier League goal every 118.5 minutes (Six goals) and he didn’t score against Crystal Palace last weekend. Expect a strike before half-time.

Chelsea vs. Fulham

MB: Chelsea should have it all to brush Fulham aside but they will be coming off a Thursday Europa League tie and fresh doubts about their ability, whilst Fulham have Claudio Ranieri in charge, making everyone seem happy. A bananaskin for the Blues. 1-1 draw.

WE: The first of two London derbies sees former Blues boss Claudio Ranieri Dilly Ding Dilly Dong his way back to Stamford Bridge as he tries to keep Fulham’s head afloat. It depends which Chelsea side turn up but I have a feeling this game could be closer than expected. 2-2 draw.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored seven goals in 13 PL matches so far and he takes 3.6 shots per game and wins 4.8 aerial duels per match. Chelsea’s defence will be busy.

Arsenal vs. Spurs

MB: Spurs are a better team than Arsenal, and Spurs are also coming off of two colossal victories vs. Chelsea and Inter. Arsenal have great tactical intelligence under Unai Emery but who knows how they will react if their star attackers don’t show up. Expect Spurs to ride the wave of their momentum up and over the Gunners. 1-3 Spurs.

WE: The north London derby promises to be a tasty affair with both sides eyeing up a top-four position once again this season. Arsenal are unbeaten in what seems like forever now (17 games) whereas Tottenham are finishing a difficult week which has seem them perform fantastically against Chelsea and Inter Milan. 2-1 Arsenal.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Mesut Ozil has four assists in 10 games against Spurs, getting one against them every season since 2014.

Liverpool vs. Everton

MB: Liverpool just suffered a chastening defeat against PSG, but they’re back in familiar territory against Everton. The Reds’ attacking line are the kind of fast moving, skilful players that gave Yerry Mina so many issues at Barcelona. Even though Richarlison could prove too much for the Liverpool defence to handle, it’d be a hard to see Everton contain their local rivals. 1-0 Liverpool.

WE: The Merseyside derby has only seen three 0-0 draws in the last 26 matches so I would suggest putting your money on at least one goal being scored. Liverpool may want to get over their loss to PSG with a derby day win but Everton won’t make it that easy. 2-0 Liverpool.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Richarlison has six goals to his name since his summer move from Watford and the Reds will need to be wary as he averages more shots outside the box than in the six-yard box (0.6 to 0.3).
