Goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar put the hosts 2-0 up and despite a James Milner penalty late in the first half, the Ligue 1 leaders held on to condemn Liverpool to a third Champions League defeat this season.
This means that Liverpool have lost all three away games of a Champions League group stage for the first time ever.
It also means that Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost four of their last six games in the competition stretching back to last season, including their 3-1 final loss against Real Madrid.

Champions League vs Premier League
Liverpool have struggled on the road in Europe across the last number of attempts which has made qualification for the next round of the competition a much tougher ask.
In contrast, the Reds – along with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side – have dominated proceedings in the Premier League this season, remaining unbeaten after 13 matches and looking impressive both home and away from Anfield.
In their seven matches away from home in the Premier League, Liverpool have won five and drawn twice. The Reds have scored 12 goals whilst only conceding four, acquiring 17 points along the way.
The Champions League has been where this Liverpool side have been caught short. They have conceded five goals in just three away matches in Europe, scoring just one.
Rough on the road for the Reds.
