Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are both starting tonight’s Champions League match against Liverpool.
The two players will line-up alongside club striker Edinson Cavani as they seek revenge for the defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side earlier in the group stages.
Neymar and Mbappe return: five things you need to know
- Neymar and Mbappé start after recovering from injuries suffered during the last international break.
- The PSG duo have scored 13 goals each this season.
- Adrien Rabiot, linked to both Barcelona and Liverpool, starts on the bench.
- Pre-match reports suggested the Frenchman would be dropped completely after Tuchel bust-up.
- Joe Gomez is back in the starting eleven after he missed Liverpool’s trip to Watford at the weekend in the Premier League.
With Gomez back in the starting line-up, playing on the right side of the defence, James Milner is also back in the first-team, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri making way for the pair.
Liverpool’s last outing in the Champions League saw them lose 2-0 to Red Star Belgrade, making their chances of qualification slimmer considering they have to face PSG in Paris tonight and then compete with Napoli in the last match of Group C.

For PSG, the welcome return of Neymar and Mbappe goes to strengthen an already impressive attacking line-up this evening, with Cavani and Angel Di Maria supporting in the final third.
What’s the issue with Rabiot?
The midfielder has been left out of the starting eleven this evening, with conversations set to be had over the player’s future at the club.
The talented Frenchman was rumoured to have been left out of the match squad altogether following a reported bust-up with club boss Thomas Tuchel. However, Rabiot starts from the bench this evening.

Rabiot’s contract expires next summer and he is yet to agree to terms with PSG, prompting rumours that he will leave the club he has been with since 2010.
Barcelona, AC Milan and Liverpool themselves have all reportedly registered interest in signing the 23-year-old but it awaits to be seen whether he will actually depart the oil-rich French club in the near future.
Jurgen Klopp feels prepared

Speaking to reporters about the prospect of facing the French giants, Klopp admitted that he finds it easier to prepare his side to face such well-known opponents rather than teams with limited videos showcasing their abilities.
Klopp said (via BBC Sport): “It is much more difficult to prepare a game when my players don’t know an opponent.
“We give them videos but this generation probably watch 500,000 YouTube videos of Mbappe, Neymar and (Edinson) Cavani and they know about their individual strengths more than I do.
“But they can only shine with the ball so that means we have to defend them.”
