Manchester City pummelled Chelsea to go top of the Premier League with a 5-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
A Sergio Aguero effort, plus goals from Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan, set the tone of the game in the opening 25 minutes.
Aguero then added a penalty in the second half before Sterling rounded off an emphatic scoreline.
The hosts were on it from the off and were simply too much for Chelsea to handle as they ran away with the game and moved ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.
Aguero stood out as he became City’s record league scorer and equalled Alan Shearer’s record of 11 Premier League hat tricks.
Man City
Ederson – 7 – A fairly routine day for the goalkeeper. Sprayed passes around the Etihad for fun, didn’t have much to do but did make a great save to deny Gonzalo Higuain from range.
Kyle Walker – 6 – As was the case for most of City’s backline, Walker didn’t have much to do. He carried out his job well and kept everything moving smoothly.
John Stones – 6 – Stones was probably City’s least involved centre back but did well to whether Chelsea’s attacking storm late in the first half.
Aymeric Laporte – 6 – A bit more involved than Stones, Laporte showed presence on the ball and carried out his job calmly.
Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7 – Didn’t look out of place at left back. Attacked well in the first half and was involved in both of Aguero’s goals and played a great ball to assist Sterling late on. Had a sound contribution defensively too.
Kevin De Bruyne – 7 – Didn’t take the headlines but an unbelievably effective game from the Belgian. Time and again he found pockets of space to exploit either himself or by finding a teammate.
Fernandinho – 7 – Another day at the office for Fernandinho as he swept up in front of the defence well and helped control the midfield battle.
Ilkay Gundogan – 7 – Took his goal well and other than that had a pretty run of the mill game. Kept things ticking over well in midfield too.
Bernardo Silva – 8 – Had a great start to the game with his pinpoint assist for Raheem Sterling after three minutes. Aguero should have given him another assist after an amazing run and cutback. Continued to show his worth to Pep with his off-ball work too.
Sergio Aguero – 9 – Aguero starred as he had yet another record-breaking day in the blue of Man City. He missed a sitter but made up for it with a great curling effort to put City 2-0 up and showed great anticipation and awareness for their third goal. Continued to be a nuisance as the game went on and completed his hat trick with a penalty before coming off to a standing ovation.
Sergio Agüero has now scored as many Premier League hat-tricks as Alan Shearer (11).

Raheem Sterling – 8 – Started the game with a very well taken finish to put City ahead. Showed good intent when attacking on the wing and played a big part in City’s fourth goal and was a nightmare for Azpilicueta who brought him down for a penalty. Finished the game with a cute finish inside a packed box.

Substitutes:
Gabriel Jesus – 6 – Showed good impetus once on for Aguero. Possibly should have scored on a couple of occasions but was under intense pressure.
Riyad Mahrez – 6 – Had flashes when on which didn’t result to much.
David Silva – 6 – came on but didn’t have much to do.
Chelsea
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 3 – A terrible day for Arrizabalaga in which he could have prevented a couple of City’s goals.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has now conceded from each of the last eight shots on target he has faced away from home in the Premier League.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 4 – Was run ragged by Sterling all game and his tiredness was clear when he brought him down for City’s penalty.
Antonio Rudiger – 5 – Wasn’t in the game and couldn’t impose himself of the City attackers at all.
David Luiz – 5 – Like Rudiger, Luiz had no impact on the City attackers and could hardly get near them.
Marcos Alonso – 3 – It was a poor showing from Alonso at the Etihad. Wasn’t alert early on and lost his marker for the first goal. Didn’t seem in sync with Hazard going forward either and faded out of the game.
Chelsea have conceded more goals in their last two Premier League away games (10) than both Man City (9) and Liverpool (8) have away from home all season.

N’Golo Kante – 5 – Tried to help with Sarri’s plan to press early on which left spaces behind for City to exploit. Tired as the game went on.
Jorginho – 4 – Couldn’t get the ball moving for Chelsea. Was often isolated and couldn’t manipulate City’s midfield.
Ross Barkley – 4 – Made a crucial error leading to Aguero’s second goal and didn’t seem to recover. Was taken off after 52 minutes.
Pedro – 5 – Seemed to be trying his best but his best didn’t seem good enough. Was able to get into dangerous positions but had no finishing touch.
Gonzalo Higuain – 5 – Tried to create chances in the first half for Chelsea and had a decent shot at goal but faded away after that.
Eden Hazard – 5 – Showed flashes that he was ready for action early on but never really got into the game.
Substitutes:
Mateo Kovacic – 5 – Didn’t have an impact when on the pitch but tried to continue pressing Man City high up the pitch.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6 – Made a couple of good forward runs to push Chelsea upfield. Didn’t have much of an impact other than that, however.
Emerson – 5 – Offered very little other than a free kick that was easily saved.
