Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane has been hailed as the ‘best number nine in the world’ by Robbie Keane.
Kane scored six goals for England to secure the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup, while he has also bagged an impressive 160 goals in 244 appearances for Spurs to date.
Is Harry Kane the best striker in the world right now? Five key things to know…
- Kane has scored 160 goals in 244 appearances for Spurs to date, although the club haven’t won a trophy in that time.
- The England international scored six goals at the 2018 World Cup, securing the Golden Boot.
- Only Mohamed Salah (48) has more Premier League goals than Kane (44)since the start of last season.
- Kane has been sidelined since mid-January but has still scored 14 league goals so far this season, the 11th-highest in Europe’s top five leagues.
- Former Spurs striker, Robbie Keane, has labelled him as the ‘best number nine in the world’.
And Keane, who himself scored 122 goals during two spells with the north London club, believes Kane ‘has everything’ a top-class striker would need, hailing him as the ‘best number nine’ around at the moment.
“For me, at this moment in time, I don’t think there’s a better number nine in the world,” Keane told Spurs TV of Kane.
“I would say he’s the best number nine at this moment in time. I just think he stands out. He’s got everything.
“He scores goals with his left foot, right foot, headers, penalties, free-kicks.”
However, it isn’t just Kane’s goalscoring ability that has impressed Keane, with the 38-year-old also praising the way he has learned to get involved with Spurs’ all-round play.
He added: “What I like about him is how he’s developed into a number nine that can also come short as well.
“His link-up play is very, very good, which we’ve seen when Dele scored that goal against Arsenal when Kane comes deep and plays that long ball.
“His first touch is immense. He can hold people off because he’s so strong.
“He’s got everything you could want for a number nine so for me he’s the best in the world.”

Are Spurs still in the title race?
With Spurs currently sitting five points behind Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, as well as the Lilywhites having a Champions League round-of-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund coming up, Mauricio Pochettino will want Kane back fit as soon as possible.
And, despite being outsiders in the title race, Graeme Souness still believes Spurs are in with a good chance of being crowned champions.
“It’s going to be nip and tuck all the way to the end,” he said on Sky Sports recently.
“There will be upsets, you’ve got to factor Tottenham into that argument as well.
“It would have been a shock to them to lose that one the other night.
“They have Harry Kane and Dele Alli out right now, which is a major blow to them, but they’re getting by.”
Spurs host Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.
