Liverpool backed to go on five-game winning streak as title race heats up

Liverpool will bounce back from their “little blip” and continue to push in the race for the Premier League title.

The Reds are three points clear at the top of the table with 13 games to go but have drawn their past two games, allowing Manchester City to close the gap.

Will Liverpool win the Premier League? Five key things to know…

  1. Liverpool are three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
  2. However, the Reds have drawn their past two matches allowing City and Tottenham the chance to close the gap.
  3. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side are likely to drop more points before the season is up.
  4. But Carragher believes Liverpool set for a winning streak as the title race heats up.
  5. Liverpool have not won a league title since 1990.

City now have the chance to go top of the table before Liverpool next play, facing Everton on Wednesday.

But, Carragher believes his former side are set to embark on a winning run which will shape the rest of the season.

“Liverpool shouldn’t forget that they are a top side and what we’re seeing won’t continue, this won’t be happening every game,” he told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool will go on a run of winning five or six games at some stage before the end of the season, there’s no doubt about it.

“They are a fantastic side, as are Tottenham and Man City. This run that they’re in may just be a little blip, but they will come back.”

Liverpool next face Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday, by which point they could be second for the first time since the start of December.

Liverpool feeling the pressure?

With two draws in consecutive matches, fans and pundits alike recalled Liverpool’s slip up in the 2013/14 Premier League.

Then, the Reds were six points clear of Manchester City with three games remaining but lost to Chelsea and drew with Crystal Palace, allowing Manuel Pellegrini’s side to take the title.

And Carragher believes Liverpool have done themselves no favours in fuelling conversations about their performances under pressure.

Carragher added: “But what they haven’t done is stop the talk of Liverpool feeling pressure and that will carry on straight into the Bournemouth game.”

It comes after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitting his side will drop more points before the Premier League season is up.

Speaking prior to the West Ham draw, Klopp said: “It was an absolutely normal game and we drew. That happens, it will happen again this season. Probably. We are still in the race and if we dropped points or whatever, then it’s still a point against Leicester. Let’s carry on again.

“But the next game is difficult again and then comes Bournemouth, who beat Chelsea 4-0 and not because Chelsea made them presents. So that’s the season. If you want to finish the season now then leave.

“Come back in May and we play another one. We cannot change that. We cannot talk week in, week out about the mindset because it will not change.”
