Liverpool will struggle to add elite forwards to their squad this summer with the likes of Salah, Firmino and Mane in their ranks, according to Michael Own.
The Reds are second in the table with the same number of points as Man City, but with a match in hand with 12 games still yet to play.

- Liverpool signed Salah (£38m), Firmino (£32m) and Mane (£32m) for a combined £102m.
- Their values have since more than doubled or even tripled, with Salah almost winning the Ballon d’Or last season.
- The Egyptian struck 44 goals in all competitions last season.
- The Reds also have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster in reserve, while Shaqiri can play in a forward role if required.
- Liverpool have scored 59 goals this season.
Michael Owen, himself an exceptional Liverpool striker, made the admission while working on BT Sport. He said, via Goal: “It is so much easier if you’re a scout or you’re in the recruitment department of any other club bar the top six,” he said.
“I mean, where do you go? How do you go and target someone, and they say ‘am I going to start?’ and you have to say ‘no, Salah will start or Mane will start’?
“You can’t go and get an absolute top player, unless they only have a couple of years left in their career. Or you go and buy the next young thing and maybe bleed him in for a year or so. To go and get someone in the guts of their career, at 24 or 25, that’s so hard, and that’s the only player that can really improve teams like this one.
“I know it’s a dream for everyone [to sign world-class players] but it’s so hard to improve your team if you are in the top six, unless you’re not happy with one of your players and you look to replace them. But Liverpool have a great front three, and so if they’re going to buy, it would more likely be one of the options I mentioned.”

Can Liverpool win the league?
The ball is still in Liverpool’s court, with a game in hand on City who have pulled level on points with the Merseysiders and ahead on goal difference.
Liverpool have the easier run-in of the three (including Spurs, who still have to play City and Liverpool away, as well Chelsea way and Arsenal at home).
But it’s City who are in the greatest form, putting six past a beleaguered Chelsea side; it’s undebatable that the Sky Blues have played the best football at times this season.
