Non-league side Dulwich Hamlet have signed ‘the world’s tallest footballer’

National League South side Dulwich Hamlet have signed the ‘tallest player in the world’, according to claims made by the club.

The South London outfit, well known for their iconic pink and purple kit, as well as their ultras fan group, recently announced they had signed Simon Bloch Jørgensen.

The goalkeeper is a product of the Copenhagen youth academy and is an astonishing 6ft10.5.

The non-leaguers used money raised by the clubs ’12th Man’ fan group to secure the stopper’s signature before announcing the capture on Twitter.

When confirming to fans they had done the deal, many were interested to know just how tall the new man was.

The club were asked about his exact height and responded: “6ft 10 and a half. Sorry, Peter Crouch, we had to one-up Burnley on this one.”

Peter Crouch himself joined Sean Dyche’s Burnley side in January but had played for Dulwich while on loan from Tottenham back in 2000.

The striker is 6ft7, which by comparison to the new Dulwich signing, is comparatively small.

Crouch has played for a number of clubs during a near 20-year career and will be keen to play a big part in Burnley’s fight against relegation, which has been boosted by a six-game unbeaten run.

Dulwich will also want their new man to have an impact as they look to remain in the National League South. The ‘keeper has experience in England having played for both Accrington Stanley and Whitehawk in the past.

The Hamlet, based at the 3,000 capacity Champion Hill Ground, are 18th in the 22-team National League South, five points above the drop zone.
