When is Fulham vs Manchester United?

Competition: Premier League

Venue: Craven Cottage

Date: Saturday, 9 February

Kick-off: 12:45 PM GMT

Match preview

Manchester United are enjoying life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Norwegian winning the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for January, to go alongside Marcus Rashford’s Player of the Month.

But the Red Devils are about to embark on their most testing period with Solskjaer in charge, as they continue to fight on three fronts with United about to face Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Liverpool in three consecutive games.

However, first they travel to London to face struggling Fulham with the chance to move into the top four. Claudio Ranieri’s men are currently seven points from safety with 13 games remaining and their hopes of staying up look slim.

The Cottagers have the worst defence in the Premier League having conceded 55 goals so far and will not be looking forward to the arrival of Man Utd, who beat them 4-1 earlier in the season.

Where can I watch live?

UK residents will be able to watch Manchester United’s trip to Fulham on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, channels 401 and 402 respectively on Sky, and 501 and 502 for Virgin Media users.

Can Solskjaer lead Man Utd to the top four?

Manchester United have been revitalised under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho in December. At the time of Mourinho’s departure, United were sixth and already looked out of the race for the top four, but they now sit just two points behind Chelsea.

A win against Fulham on Saturday will see the Red Devils in the top four for the first time this season, ahead of Chelsea’s match against Manchester City on Sunday.

United do still have to play Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea before the season is up though three of those four games are at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils have won seven of their 12 games so far.

Why Craven Cottage could prove Solskjaer’s toughest challenge yet?

Hear why Solskjaer needs to heed Sir Alex’s warning in RedArmyBet’s Man Utd v Fulham preview.

United’s trip to Craven Cottage should be the Red’s chance to make it ten wins under Ole – out of 11 in case you hadn’t heard. Solskjaer’s side have been relentless since he took over and a win over the relegation strugglers should be a formality. We said that against Burnley though. February represents the toughest test for the new manager with a plethora of difficult games. After the Fulham clash of course.

While it’s easy to dismiss this weekend’s game as an absolute banker, now is not the time for complacency. How many times over the past few seasons have the seemingly easy games been the most disappointing? Even under Sir Alex Ferguson trips to relegation fodder occasionally undid us.

Head-to-head

Fighting for their Premier League survival, there aren’t many teams Fulham would want to face less than Manchester United. The Cottagers are without a win against United in their past 11 games – with just two draws in that time.

United’s 4-1 win over Fulham at Old Trafford in December brought up their 50th success over the London side in all competitions, with the Cottagers managing just 14.

But, despite United’s towering domination over Fulham, the two teams have shared a number of high-profile players.

Team news

Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri has confirmed Cyrus Christie and Andre Schurrle will be available for selection to face Man Utd after returning from injury problems, but ruled out starts for Lazar Markovic and Havard Nordtveit. Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ineligible.

Manchester United will still be without Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian with the pair sidelined through injuries, but could call upon Marcos Rojo who returned to training this week.

Predicted Fulham XI: Rico; Odoi, Le Marchand, Ream; Christie, Seri, Chambers, Bryan; Cairney, Mitrovic, Babel.

Predicted Man Utd XI:  De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Smalling, Shaw; Herrera, Pogba, Matic; Lingard, Rashford, Martial.

Squawka Prediction

Some may point to the curse of the Manager of the Month award, but that should be no such problem for Solskjaer. 3-1 Man Utd.
