‘Kolarov played on a broken foot for a month’ – EDF answers Roma Ultras

AS Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco has revealed Aleksandar Kolarov played for a month with a broken foot.

The former Manchester City full-back has come under criticism from the club’s supporters for his recent performances.

EDF jumps to Kolarov’s defence: Five things you need to know…

  1. Kolarov joined Roma from Manchester City in 2017 for £5.8 million.
  2. The 33-year-old has made 75 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.
  3. The Serbian played an important role in the club’s progression to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
  4. However, this year he has struggled for form, with the ‘Roma Ultras’ aiming criticism in his direction.
  5. EDF has now leapt to his player’s defence, revealing the Serbian has been playing through injury.

Speaking at a press conference, Di Francesco has insisted that his defender has shown great commitment to the club and that it is simply human to make mistakes.

“We’re all human and everyone makes mistakes,” he told reporters.

“Sometimes people can go over the top. But Aleksandar has always shown great dedication – remember he played for a month and half with a fractured foot. He has always given everything for Roma.”

“We must be more ruthless”

In the same press conference, Di Francesco discussed the developments of other players on the books at AS Roma.

Naming specific individuals who are progressing at the club, the Roma boss insisted their form must improve in order for them to get themselves higher up the Serie A table.

He said: “[Daniel] Fuzato is improving every day, he’s a goalkeeper with great potential. But [Antonio] Mirante will start tomorrow – for his experience, his readiness.

“[Javier] Pastore needs to keep training hard; we need him too, and I hope he’ll show again the quality we know he has.

“We’ve dropped so many points against like Chievo so they must be faced in a certain way. They’re fierce teams.

“We’ve not had much consistency, so we must be more ruthless and put in an adequate defensive effort like we did against Milan.

“We’ll have the best chance of winning if we defend in such a way.”
