Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has missed his latest training session at the club amid reports that he is about to move to China.
Carlo Ancelotti recently confirmed Hamsik’s desire to leave the club this month, with Dalian Yifang the reported destination.
Will Hamsik head to China? Five things you need to know…
- Marek Hamsik joined the club from Brescia in 2007 for €5.5 million.
- He has established himself as a Napoli great, making 520 appearances in all competitions, scoring 121 goals – more than any player in the club’s history.
- Hamsik has been strongly linked with a move to Dalian Yifang, with the deal seemingly done.
- However, Napoli have now suspended the move due to a ‘change in the payment method’.
- As a result, Hamsik didn’t report to training on Friday morning with his teammates.
Hamsik’s lawyer Fabio Marrucco spoke about the suspended move for his client, who expected to be joining up with his new teammates and preparing for his first match in the Chinese Super League.
Instead, Hamsik remains at the club, with his agent confirming that he will miss Napoli’s next match against Fiorentina and that although the deal has hit a major stumbling block, it is far from over.
Marrucco told reporters: “I saw Marek two days ago before this bomb exploded.
“He was ready to leave. For me the deal hasn’t closed, but my thought remains. [Napoli president] Aurelio De Laurentiis already gave a warning at his last press conference.
“Yesterday’s tweet can be interpreted very extensively, so it’s not all closed yet. Perhaps the Chinese didn’t know they were dealing with a club whose accounts are in good standing and who can dictate their own rules.
“Marek’s request wasn’t to lose this opportunity and ADL had given his consent to the conditions that were established.
“Those conditions weren’t honoured and the president has every right to say ‘no’. Everything will be clarified next week.
“In the meantime he won’t face Fiorentina, but he’ll take a step back and there won’t be any problems if the deal were to completely break down.
“The happiest people right now are his children. If Ancelotti gave his approval to the sales of [Marko] Rog and Hamsik, it either signals the go-ahead to some important signings in the summer or that he was pressured by the board to free some slots in the squad.”

Why was Hasmik’s move to China suspended?
The problem here seems to be that Dalian want a loan deal for Hamsik with an option to buy, while Napoli would prefer a straight sale.
However, the deal is ‘suspended’ according to the Italians, who haven’t fully closed the door on Hamsik’s departure from the club.
A tweet released via Napoli’s official Twitter account read: “The club has decided to suspend Marek Hamsik’s move to China because the payment methods proposed for the agreed sum fail to adhere to what was previously agreed.”
In what seemed like a simple transaction, now we will wait and see what develops next in this confusing saga.
