Pep Guardiola has continued his row with Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari over the Catalan’s supposedly ‘disrespectful’ comments last month.
Guardiola was asked in January who he thought were the best teams in Europe over the last decade, naming Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus as his top three based on their domestic domination and European challenges.
TLDR? Guardiola vs Solari summed up in five key points…
- In January, Guardiola named Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus as his top three teams in Europe.
- Real Madrid boss, Santiago Solari, hit back at the Catalan, accusing him of leaving his side out to draw a reaction.
- Los Blancos have won the Champions League in four of the past five seasons, including the last three in a row.
- Guardiola has given a sarcastic reply to Solari, explaining his decision and saying Real fans should be ‘happy with him now’.
- Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea face City this week with the Italian naming Guardiola’s side as ‘the best in Europe’.
Those comments seemed to fire up Solari, who accused Guardiola of leaving Real out of his list to draw a reaction in the Spanish capital – something which Guardiola seemed to succeed in doing.
And the 48-year-old has now responded once again, although there was no shortage of sarcasm from the Manchester City boss.
“Thank you so much, but I will be nice for the Madrid supporters, who are upset with me, who are saying the best team in Europe is Real Madrid,” he said at his press conference.
“Because in the last three years they won and I think they are the best team by far in Europe in the last decade, and the best team is Real Madrid.
“But Real Madrid not the best team of the decade when you count leagues and cups and the other ones, because Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich won six or seven times and they [Madrid] won two.
“I am pretty sure that Solari now understands my answer better. I am pretty sure they are happy now with me.”

Sarri: Man City are the best in Europe
Man City host Chelsea on Sunday in another vital game for both sides, with Guardiola’s side looking to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League and Maurizio Sarri trying to secure a Champions League place for the Londoners.
Chelsea were the first side to beat City this season back in December, although Sarri maintained the reigning champions were the best team in Europe – something the Italian has reiterated at his latest press conference.
“At the moment, in my opinion, Manchester City is the best team in Europe,” the Italian said.
“Guardiola is in the third season in the Premier League. We have to try to reduce the gap.”
Sarri was also asked if Chelsea are capable of challenging City at the top of the Premier League, with the former Napoli coach dismissing that and claiming the title race is down to just two clubs.
“At the moment, I don’t think so,” he added. “We will be able to fight for the top four in this season. No more, I think.
“We can win something, of course, but in the Premier League there is a fight between Liverpool and Manchester City.”
