Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side are likely to slip up again this season on their quest for the Premier League title.
The Reds have drawn their past two games in the Premier League against Leicester City and West Ham United, allowing Manchester City to gain ground.
Will Liverpool slip up? Five key things to know…
- Liverpool missed the chance to move seven pooints clear at the top of the Premier League when they were held by Leicester City last week.
- The Reds are now just three points clear at the top of the Premier League after their 1-1 draw at West Ham.
- Despite their impressive displays this season, Liverpool have constantly been reminded of the 2013/14 season in which they sensational lost a late lead to finish second.
- But Jurgen Klopp has retained belief in his Liverpool squad, despite conceding they will drop more points before the season is up.
- Liverpool have not won a league title since 1989/90.
Going into Liverpool’s game against West Ham United on Monday, the Reds were just two points clear at the top of the table. But the draw means they could end the week in second if City beat Everton on Wednesday.
And, while Klopp concedes his side will drop more points before the season is up, the German remains unfazed at the prospect.
“After the Leicester game I heard the words from [Claude] Puel that they deserved more,” he told reporters prior to Liverpool’s draw with West Ham.
“I don’t know where he got that from to be honest but it’s all good, he is entitled to his view. It was an absolutely normal game and we drew. That happens, it will happen again this season. Probably. We are still in the race and if we dropped points or whatever, then it’s still a point against Leicester. Let’s carry on again.
“But the next game is difficult again and then comes Bournemouth, who beat Chelsea 4-0 and not because Chelsea made them presents. So that’s the season. If you want to finish the season now then leave.
“Come back in May and we play another one. We cannot change that. We cannot talk week in, week out about the mindset because it will not change.”
Liverpool fans will still be hurting after the last time they went close to winning the Premier League in 2013/14, in which they capitulated with just three games to go.
The fall was marked by Steven Gerrard slipping and allowing Demba Ba to score in a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, followed by Liverpool surrendering a 3-0 lead away to Crystal Palace which put the title in Man City’s hands.

Walker teases Liverpool over Premier League slip up
Klopp’s comments came after Manchester City full-back, Kyle Walker, teased Liverpool for dropping points against Leicester City.
Walker has made a name for himself as somewhat of a joker on Twitter, often posting captioned pictures as well as footage of nutmegs in training.
The full-back’s latest joke was aimed at Liverpool, using an image of Harry Maguire made popular during England’s World Cup campaign.
The caption read: “So basically they thought they were gonna go 7 points ahead…”
Kyle Walker deleted the tweet pic.twitter.com/UDdRO2wWYK

However, Walker would later delete the tweet, possibly as a precaution should Liverpool go on to win the Premier League.
