PSG star Kylian Mbappe insists he’s not phased by the upcoming Manchester United fixture in the Champions League but acknowledges it will be “complicated” without Neymar.
Following his sensational showing in France’s World Cup winning squad, Mbappe is absolutely smashing it in Ligue 1 this season. The 20-year-old has notched 18 goals in 16 league games this season, eclipsing his tally (13) from last campaign.
Five things you need to know about Kylian Mbappe’s sensational season…
- Mbappe completed his first season at PSG last campaign after being loaned from Monaco.
- The 20-year-old’s move was made permanent in the summer before he triumphed at the World Cup with France.
- After becoming the youngest player to score in a World Cup final since Pele, Mbappe was handed the No.7 shirt at PSG.
- He’s already scored more goals than he did last season in fewer appearances. He leads Ligue 1 with 18 goals and six assists from 16 games.
- The inaugural Kopa Trophy winner is still in the running for the Golden Shoe with his 22-goal haul, but will have to catch Lionel Messi who leads him by seven.
The Frenchman’s form in front of goal might explain why he’s not worried about facing Manchester United at Old Trafford on 12 February despite failing to hit the net in PSG’s first loss of the season against Lyon.
“We have not realised our many opportunities, Mbappe told AS.
“I’m not worried about the Champions League match.
“We must take it match by match and wait for the Champions League. It feels good to play matches like that (against Lyon).
“Facing teams that play is the best way to prepare for the upcoming deadlines, it’s up to us to win. The goal was to remain undefeated and we will try not to lose again by the end of the season.”
In December PSG would have been relishing the opportunity to face a Manchester United riven with discord behind the scenes and bereft of ideas on the pitch. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment has steadied the ship at Old Trafford and the caretaker boss has transformed the Red Devils into a formidable outfit making PSG’s task – although they are still the favourites – not as straightforward.

Will PSG miss Neymar against United
Neymar picked up another metatarsal fracture in the French Cup and will miss both legs of PSG’s clash with Manchester United in the Champions League.
The Brazil international has only made 13 appearances for PSG season, but he has scored as many goals in that time and has contributed to six more for his teammates.
Despite Mbappe’s lack of concern over the United fixture he has acknowledged that missing Neymar created complications for the French giants:
“It’s complicated, yes, to play without Neymar. You must accept it. Last season, he was also injured and it would be nice not to make the same mistakes, otherwise it would mean that we did not learn anything.”
PSG still have an abundance of goals in their starting XI and are strong side defensively, having only conceded 13 this season.
