Manchester City’s 6-1 win over Manchester United in 2011 ended the Red Devils’ mockery of their derby rivals, according to Edin Dzeko.
The Bosnian striker scored 72 goals in 189 City appearances following his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2011, helping the club to two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and a League Cup in the process.

That first Premier League triumph, in 2011/12, ended a 44-year wait for a top-flight title and was made even sweeter by the fact that City edged out their fierce rivals on goal difference after hammering them 6-1 at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
And Dzeko, who now plies his trade with Roma in Italy, has recalled that ‘humiliation’ of Man Utd and how it changed the footballing landscape in the city.
“To beat them 6-1 in their own ground was a humiliation, especially in a derby when it’s even worse,” he told FourFourTwo.
“It all happened so quickly – we got three goals in the last five minutes or something like that. Maybe that game gave us more power and energy to think we could do it at the end; that we were the team to win it that year.
“Beating United with Alex Ferguson, one of the greatest managers in history, was a special moment for us and the fans, and it gave us an even more special relationship because they loved us more.
“United always had that flag which counted the years City were without a title, making fun of our fans. After the 6-1 they were quiet!”
Dzeko scored the equaliser against QPR on the final day to set up what is, arguably, the greatest moment in Premier League history when Sergio Aguero fired home a last-gasp win to seal the title for City.

Dzeko: Manchester City feel like my club
Despite making over 160 appearances for Roma since leaving Man City in 2015, Dzeko still feels a close bond with the reigning Premier League champions, admitting he still follows them as much as possible to this day.
“I was there for four-and-a-half years, I won some trophies – after City had waited 44 years [for a top-flight title] – and had a great time, so it was a special period in my career,” he added.
“I still follow City when I can. They feel like my club, and it was a pleasure to play in the best league in the world – you want to play with the best and compete with the best. It’s amazing to see how much City have grown as a club since then.”
