Juventus defender Georgio Chiellini responds to Jose Mourinho’s Harvard comment

Juventus defender Georgio Chiellini has responded to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s Harvard university praise.

The Serie A champions defeated Mourinho’s United 1-0 at Old Trafford in the Champions League recently courtesy of a goal from Paulo Dybala.

Dominating possession with 61%, Massimiliano Allegri’s side limited United to just six shots, with only two of those falling on target.

In the heart of Juventus’ defence were both Chiellini and summer returnee Leonardo Bonucci, who have come together to form an excellent partnership which has seen the reigning champions concede just seven goals in 10 Serie A matches.

After their win on English soil, Mourinho heaped praise on both players, saying: “Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, they could go to Harvard University to give classes about how to be a central defender.

“Quality in football is everywhere. When I say quality I don’t just say creative players – Chiellini and Bonucci, it is absolutely beautiful to see.”

In response to Mourinho’s praise, Chiellini claimed he would love to attend the famous American university but only to educate himself further in a specific subject away from the footballing world.

Chiellini said: “Me to Harvard? Yes, I would like to go there, but for a master’s in economics, not to take a defence lesson (laughs).”

The prospect of facing both Chiellini and Bonucci again will soon be a reality to Mourinho and Manchester United, who travel to Turin for their Champions League clash with the Italian giants next week.
