Vinicius Jr has big Real Madrid future, says Solari after fan poll

Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior has a big future with Real Madrid according to interim manager Santiago Solari.

Solari’s comments came after the club’s 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Melilla on Wednesday, in which the 18-year-old provided two assists and was the standout player on the night.

That performance prompted a fan poll urging Solari to include the former Flamengo man in the starting XI for Los Blancos’ La Liga tie with Real Valladolid on Saturday.

Solari resisted that temptation but brought Vinicius off the bench, with the youngster forcing the first goal in Real’s vital 2-0 win as his shot was deflected in, ending a run of five league games without a victory.

And, speaking after the Melilla game (via Football Espana), Solari said: “Vinicius has a big future ahead of him, but he is very young.

“You have to remember he is only 18 and has just arrived into a new club, a new country, a new playing style, a new way of living.

“He will continue to develop and mature into a very good player, I’m sure of it and everyone must show patience with him.”

The Solari effect at Real Madrid

Following a torrid start to the season, culminating in a 5-1 El Clasico humiliation at the Nou Camp recently, Julen Lopetegui was dismissed as manager despite having only taken up the job over the summer.

Since taking the reins on an interim basis, Solari has guided Real to 4-0 and 2-0 wins over Melilla and Valladolid respectively, meaning they have now kept a third of their clean sheets this season in their last two games.

Solari’s next challenge comes in the form of an away tie at Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
