AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe wants to “write a new history” against Liverpool this weekend.
The Cherries have largely impressed this season as they head into this weekend’s round of fixtures against the Premier League title-chasers.
Can Bournemouth beat Liverpool? Five things you need to know…
- Eddie Howe led Bournemouth to the Premier League in 2015.
- They are currently 10th in the league and five points off seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
- The Cherries have played Liverpool 10 times since 2014, losing eight times and winning just once.
- The Reds will return to the top of the Premier League with just a point at Anfield on Saturday.
- However, they know a Manchester City victory over Chelsea on Sunday will see their title-rivals leapfrog them once more.
Speaking to reporters, Cherries boss Howe believes that his side are more than capable of beating Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.
The Reds haven’t lost at home in the league since Crystal Palace beat them 2-1 in April 2017. But, Howe feels his side need to recover from their defeat against Cardiff City and put on a good performance on Merseyside.
Howe said: “Winning at Anfield is something we would love to do. No team has done it for a long period of time in the Premier League which goes to show how consistent Liverpool have been.
“The Chelsea result was where everything came together, and there have been other games where we have performed really well and just missed out.
“We want to put our last defeat at Cardiff to bed and really perform for our away fans.”

Are Liverpool ready for this weekend’s test?
The Reds go into this weekend knowing they need to do all they can to pick up maximum points en route to the Premier League title.
City are currently sitting at the top of the table, albeit on goal difference, with Tottenham also not completely out of the running in the race for the title.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joe Gomez is still out of contention, as are fellow defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dejan Lovren.
However, he is more hopeful for the return of both Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum who both trained this week.
He said: “Jordan trained yesterday as well, first time, not that long a break but it was a muscle issue he had so obviously we need to have another look today.
“Gini trained yesterday completely normal, that’s how it is. But I don’t know in the moment, so we have to see.”
Bournemouth on a European tour?
Sitting slap bang in the middle of the Premier League pack, Bournemouth are a club who look extremely comfortable amid the array of talent the league has to offer.
They are organised, committed and most importantly, talented. Howe has been able to put a side together with support from the club’s owners and now they look like an experienced top-flight side.
The next step for the Cherries would be to lift themselves up the table and in contention for a potential Europa League place.
Depending on who wins the FA Cup this year, a place in the Europa League may be up for grabs for the side that finishes seventh.
Wolves are currently sitting proud in that spot, but with just five points separating Bournemouth from the Midlands side, anything is possible for Howe’s men.
