Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has insisted Marcelo will not leave the club for Italian giants Juventus.
Marcelo played his part in the club’s 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Barcelona on Wednesday evening in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.
Should Marcelo join Juventus? Five things you need to know…
- Marcelo joined Real Madrid in 2007, moving from Brazilian outfit Fluminense.
- The 30-year-old has made 475 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 36 goals.
- In that time he has won four La Liga titles to go with four Champions League winners’ medals.
- The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Juventus, a journey former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo made last summer.
- However, Solari has insisted the left-back is going nowhere.
Madrid manager Solari – who took over from Julen Lopetegui following his sacking in October – has seen an overturn in fortunes at the club, with their La Liga form improving since his arrival and their quest for yet another Champions League triumph still at large.
At just 30 years of age, Marcelo still has plenty to offer the club – although he was criticised for his performance against Barcelona on Wednesday – which is why there has been interest from fellow European greats Juventus.
However, Solari has been quick to deny any potential deal, insisting Marcelo is extremely important to the club.
He told reporters: “Marcelo is our second captain, 100 percent ‘madridista’ and we look for everyone’s best version”.

An important few months for Madrid
Solari’s arrival has seen the club become more competitive again in both domestic and European competitions.
Madrid are still eight points behind league leaders Barcelona but with 16 games to play, they have half a chance of catching up their bitter rivals.
Barcelona also stand in their way in the Copa del Rey. The two sides drew 1-1 on Wednesday evening at the Nou Camp with the return leg occurring at the start of March.
As for the Champions League, Ajax are the designated opposition who stand in the way of Madrid progressing to the quarter-finals, in a bid to get their hands on the European trophy for the fifth time in six years.
Marcelo, Solari and the rest of the Madrid contingent will need to be in their best form if they are to establish their dominance on home and European soil once again.
