The 3pm Premier League action you might have missed: Personal best already for Everton’s Richarlison

After midweek Carabao Cup action the Premier League was back once again with eight teams involved in the traditional 3pm kick-offs.

Cardiff City hosted Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion travelled to Everton, Newcastle United played Watford and West Ham United faced off against Burnley.

Before all matches on Saturday in the Premier League teams held a minute’s silence for Remembrance Sunday and Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha plus the four others who sadly died in a helicopter crash outside the Foxes’ King Power Stadium last weekend.

Here are nine things you might have missed from Saturday’s 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League.

1. A touching tribute in Wales

At the Cardiff City Stadium football was the least important thing as fans of Leicester and Cardiff combined for a beautifully observed minute’s silence in honour of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

As the teams walked out of the tunnel a banner with the Thai flag on was unfurled by Leicester fans before being passed around to their opposition supporters in a perfect showing of supporters coming together in a time of mourning.

Then, Cardiff released a short message from their owner Vincent Tan which read: “Mr Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

“A great son of Thailand, may you rest in peace.

“Vincent Tan & Cardiff City FC.”

It is unbelievable that Leicester’s players managed to pull together to play on Saturday afternoon but they, and Cardiff, made sure Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s memory lived on.

2. Richarlison betters last season’s Premier League tally

Richarlison really loves playing under Marco Silva.

Last season the Brazilian looked like being a gem for Watford scoring five goals in his first 12 Premier League games following a summer signing from Fluminense.

But that would be all he managed to score for the Hornets, failing to find the net in the next 26 games for Watford before joining Everton this summer.

And after just nine games at the Toffees, Richarlison has already beaten his tally for last season, twice a brace against Brighton first capping off a good Everton break before capitalising on a mistake.

3. Arnautovic finally nets against Burnley

Prior to West Ham’s game against Burnley on Saturday afternoon, Marko Arnautovic had gone six games without scoring against the Clarets.

Only against Swansea City (eight) and West Bromwich Albion (seven) had the Austrian gone more games without scoring against a specific opponent.

But it took Arnautovic just 11 minutes into his seventh appearance to end that run, capitalising of a mistake from Tarkowski to ease the ball past Joe Hart and give his side the lead.

4. Lewis Dunk heads in again

Lewis Dunk has made a name for himself in the Premier League as an impressive centre-back since Brighton’s promotion at the start of last season.

His performances have seen him called up to the England national team though he is still awaiting his first cap, but could be in with a chance for the November internationals once Gareth Southgate gets a look at his goalscoring record.

Equalising for Brighton against Everton on Saturday, Dunk scored his 12th goal in English league. Of these goals, 10 have been scored with his head including one out of two in the Premier League.

5. Sol Bamba displays his goalkeeping ability

What a save by Sol Bamba! Too bad he’s not a goalkeeper and should have been sent off.

With Leicester City pushing to take the lead just before half-time, Jamie Vardy unleashed an effort which looked to be going into the back of the net with the goalkeeper beaten.

But up stepped Sol Bamba with a block on the line deflecting it onto the woodwork which was deemed by referee Lee Probert to purely be a superb bit of defending.

However, replays showed the Ivorian used his hand to save the shot and should have been sent off with Leicester awarded a penalty.

A moment to forget for Lee Probert and yet another point in the column for VAR in the Premier League.

6. Seamus Coleman ends goal drought

Seamus Coleman has had a torrid 18 months with injury problems restricting him to just 18 appearances for Everton since April 2017.

As a result, the Irishman has not been able to continue the good goalscoring record which made him a favourite of Fantasy Football managers worldwide.

But finally, after 652 days, Coleman has broken his Premier League goalscoring duck having last found the net in a 1-0 win for Everton against Crystal Palace on January 21, 2017.

7. Leicester’s goalscoring run continues

After 11 games in the Premier League this season, one team remains having scored in every match they’ve played so far. Leicester City.

The Foxes had to work hard for their goal against Cardiff on Saturday and things didn’t look to be going their way as Bamba escaped punishment for handling on the line just before half-time.

But they did get the goal to continue their run through Demarai Gray who finished well from Ben Chilwell’s cross.

The goal sparked emotional scenes from the entire Leicester scene given the circumstances but was slightly soured by Gray receiving a yellow card for taking his top off to reveal a T-shirt with ‘For Khun Vichai’ on it.

8. Chris Wood continues to haunt West Ham

What a game at the London Stadium!

West Ham twice saw a lead slip only to come out on top, beating Burnley 4-2 thanks to goals from Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and a brace from Felipe Anderson.

But, after initially going 2-1 up, West Ham were pegged back for the second time with Chris Wood drawing Burnley level.

The goal was the fifth time Wood has directly been involved in against the Hammers, with four goals and one assist. An impressive record on its own, Wood has played just three times against West Ham in the Premier League.

9. Newcastle win a game

Ladies and gentlemen it has finally happened.

On the 12th attempt in all competitions this season Newcastle United have finally won a game.

Languishing in 19th in the Premier League table at the start of the match, the Magpies were up against a Watford side who had started the seasons brightly with all signs on paper pointing to an away win.

But Newcastle’s fans were given something to sing about in the 66th minute as Ayoze Perez headed in from Ki Sung-yueng’s free-kick to put the Magpies ahead, a lead they would hold until the final whistle.

Perez’s goal was only Newcastle’s seventh in the Premier League this season, three of which have been scored by substitutes. But the most important thing for Newcastle fans will be a first victory moving them out of the relegation zone.
