Antoine Griezmann: I want to retire in MLS

Atletico Madrid ace Antoine Griezmann has admitted he would like to end his career in MLS.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed an immensely successful 2018, playing a key role in helping Atletico win last season’s Europa League before scoring four goals as France secured the World Cup in Russia.

However, despite being such a key figure at the Wanda Metropolitano, Griezmann already has his sights set on the future.

Speaking to ESPN, Griezmann named his love for NBA and American culture as key reasons behind his future ambitions.

“I want to play in MLS, I’d like to finish my career there,” Griezmann said.

“They have a different mindset, I love the NBA and the show business aspect of it. I also love American football, and I love (the country) because no one (recognises) me when I’m there.”

Atletico Madrid have made a typically solid start to the season, conceding just six goals from their opening 11 games and remaining well within the La Liga title shake-up.

However, Griezmann’s form in front of goal is yet to explode as it so often can, with the French international managing just five strikes from 15 games so far.

Griezmann has managed four assists so far this season, though, and scored a wonderful free-kick in Atletico’s 1-1 draw away to Leganes on Saturday.

Diego Simeone’s men next face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
