PSG forward Neymar has admitted he ‘spent two days crying at home’ after suffering a metatarsal injury in January.
The Brazil international sustained the injury in PSG’s 2-0 Coupe de France win over Strasbourg last month, coming under a number of robust challenges following some characteristic showboating.
When is Neymar due back in action? Five key things to know…
- Prior to his injury, Neymar had scored 20 goals in 23 games for PSG this season.
- However, the Brazilian suffered a metatarsal injury during a 2-0 win over Strasbourg last month.
- That ruled him out of the Parisian’s Champions League tie with Man Utd, in which they hold a 2-0 lead.
- Neymar has admitted he ‘spent two days crying’ about the injury but is working hard to make his comeback.
- The 27-year-old is not expected to be back in action until April at the earliest.
Neymar suffered a similar injury in February 2018 and this latest setback has ruled him out of PSG’s Champions League tie against Manchester United, in which they hold a 2-0 lead after the first leg, as well as a number of important domestic games.
And the former Barcelona man has admitted having a tough time getting over this injury.
“This time I had a tough time getting over it,” he told Brazilian TV channel, Globo.
“I spent two days at home crying. It’s more complicated.
“The first time I hurt myself I said, ‘I’ll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible’. I wasn’t sad.”
Neymar had scored 20 goals in 23 appearances for PSG this season, prior to his injury.

The road to recovery
Despite suffering some obvious emotional damage with his latest injury setback, Neymar has insisted his recovery is going well.
The 27-year-old now has a much more positive attitude and is focusing on getting back to ‘doing what he loves the most in life’.
“It’s getting better,” the attacker told YouTube show, Fui Clear.
“We have already done several treatments, some procedures in order to improve it as quickly as possible and we are happy with the progress and with how things are going.
“I can’t wait to do what I love to do the most in my life which is to play football. It’s eight to 10 weeks [recovery period] – that’s what we imagine, so I think 10 weeks at most. We have worked to accelerate the process.”
