Trent Alexander-Arnold has hailed Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson as the ‘best in the world’ since his arrival at Anfield this summer.
The Brazilian international joined for a then-record fee for a goalkeeper when he signed from Italian side Roma and has helped Liverpool mount a serious title challenge this season.
How much of a difference has Alisson made to Liverpool? Five key things you should know…
- Liverpool lost last season’s Champions League final due to two mistakes by Loris Karius who is now playing in Turkey.
- Alisson was signed during the summer for a then-record fee for a ‘keeper of £66.8m
- Alisson kept 12 clean sheets as Liverpool went unbeaten for the first 20 Premier League games this season.
- Reds full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold believes Alisson is the best shot stopper in the world.
- The right-back also thinks the Brazilian ‘keeper has improved the dressing room atmosphere at Anfield.
Liverpool have made massive strides this season after falling short of a title challenge last season. They currently sit second in the Premier League, trailing leaders Manchester City on goal difference having played one game fewer.
The tally of 65 points after 26 games is five points better than at this stage last season, showing Jurgen Klopp’s men have improved and Alexander-Arnold believes that Alisson has played a big part in that.
“Obviously it’s important for any team that wants to be really successful to try to have the best players that they possibly can in all positions and I think Alisson is definitely one of the best in the world in his position,” he told Goal.
“He’s shown that many times already for us.”

Liverpool have also conceded far fewer than at this stage last season when they had let 32 goals past their goalkeeper. That leaky defence put a serious dent in their title hopes but Klopp sought to rectify the problem over the summer with the addition of Alisson from Roma.
This campaign has seen the Reds let in just 15 goals in their 26 games so far, by far the best record in the Premier League.
Alexander-Arnold believes ‘incredible’ Alisson has been a massive presence for the club adding quality on the pitch whilst also being a great character off it.
He added: “He’s an incredible player and a really good person off the pitch as well, which is something that’s important for any team and especially us because we like to have a good team bond and he’s fitted in straight away and shown that he can adapt as well.
“So he’s really changed a lot of things at the club.”
Can Liverpool win the Premier League?
With a solid base to build from there is no reason why Liverpool can’t push Manchester City all the way this season.
They have conceded five fewer than their rivals but have been unable to match their goal scoring feat with Guardiola’s men netting an incredible 74 goals already this season, 15 more than Liverpool.
The Reds can climb back to the summit this weekend if they can win with Manchester City not in league action.
Pep Guardiola’s men take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday giving Liverpool the chance to go top should they defeat a resurgent Manchester United at Old Trafford.
