Besiktas leak Loris Karius Liverpool departure on Twitter

Turkish giants Besiktas have confirmed their signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius via the club’s official Twitter account. 

Karius has been linked with a move away from Anfield for some time after making a pair of horrendous errors in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League final.

The Istanbul club had recently emerged as the favourites to land the German stopper and it would seem that Besiktas have now secured their target, with the club adding Karius to it’s Twitter banner photo with the hashtag #cometobesiktas.

Both clubs are yet to officially confirmed the transfer, believed to be a loan move.

Loris Karius had a higher save percentage (68.89%) in the 2017/18 Premier League season than Thibaut Courtois (68.52%) and Ederson (68.29%).

After winning his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI last season, ahead of Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius looked like he had initially added some long-needed stability between the sticks at Anfield.

Karius had a save percentage of 68.89% in the Premier League last season, the third-highest of the league’s top-six goalkeepers in 2017/18 – beating the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Ederson in that department.

And, in the league, Karius didn’t make a single error leading to a goal for Liverpool, while the likes of Hugo Lloris and Petr Cech made eight and seven respectively.

However, it all went sour for Karius in Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May.

First, Karius rolled the ball straight into the path of Karim Benzema to allow the French forward an easy tap-in to make it 1-0 to Los Blancos.

Then, after Liverpool had battled back to 1-1 before a Gareth Bale wondergoal, Karius allowed the Welshman to score his second of the game – the ex-Mainz stopper allowed what appeared to be a routine shot from Bale slip from his grasp and into the back of the net, sealing the 3-1 scoreline.

Following that game, Karius returned to pre-season action for the Reds and has made a series of well-documented errors, forcing the club to spend a then-world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper to bring in Alisson Becker from Roma.
