Carabao Cup semi-final draw: Man City, Spurs and Chelsea learn their fate

The Carabao Cup is close to its end and the draw for the semi-finals has been made.

League One side Burton Albion produced the shock of the quarter-finals beating Middlesbrough 1-0, reaching the final four for the first time in the club’s history.

  1. Manchester City beat Leicester City to keep their hopes of retaining the Carabao Cup and will face League One side Burton Albion.
  2. Burton remain the lowest ranked team in the tournament thanks to their shock 10- win over Middlesbrough.
  3. After getting through one London derby in the quarter-finals, Tottenham have been rewarded with another, drawn against Chelsea in the last four.
  4. The first legs are set to be played on the week commencing Monday 7 January, with the return matches two weeks later.
  5. The Carabao Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, 24 February.

Defending champions Manchester City beat Leicester City on penalties to earn their place in the semi-finals.

Tottenham beat north London rivals Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates, avenging their Premier League defeat, while Chelsea saw off Bournemouth to earn their places in the semi-finals.

The first legs are set to be played on the week commencing Monday, 7 January, with the return matches are scheduled for the week commencing Monday 21, January.

Twitter reacts

Prior to the draw, conspiracy theories were flying after Craig Bellamy mentioned Manchester City facing Burton Albion after their penalty shootout win over Leicester – a full 24 hours before the draw was made.

And, understandably, Twitter went mad as soon as the draw was revealed setting Man City up against Burton.
