Lots of Chelsea fans’ least favourite player is actually the second most ‘creative’ in the Premier League this season

Eden Hazard has become the first player to create 50 chances in the Premier League this season.

The Belgian ace was pivotal in the Blues’ 2-1 Boxing Day win over Watford, scoring both goals while also laying on two chances for his teammates.

How does Hazard compare to the other Premier League creators? Five key things to know…

  1. Eden Hazard has been directly involved in a league-high 19 goals this season, scoring 10 and assisting nine.
  2. His two chances created in Chelsea’s Boxing Day win took him to 50 for the season so far.
  3. That is also a league-high, with teammate Willian and Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser closest behind with 46.
  4. Ryan Fraser is the only Premier League player to create more big chances, with 16 to Hazard’s 12.
  5. After the 2-1 win over the Hornets, Sarri compared Hazard’s effect at Chelsea to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Those goals took him past a century of strikes in a Chelsea shirt, while the chances he created meant Hazard became the first player to break the 50-mark in the Premier League for that particular stat.

After the Watford game, Sarri compared Hazard’s Chelsea impact to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“He is very important for us. Messi is very important for Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo is very important for Juventus.” Sarri said.

“He is a very great player. He is able to play in every position. At the moment he is playing as a false number nine and he is very able to play in that position.

“Today he scored two goals and I think he made two or three very good [chances].

“He is very able to come play with team-mates and to open space for his team-mates.”

Hazard’s two goals against the Hornets also means the former Lille man has been directly involved in more Premier League goals (19) than any other Premier League player this season.

Why is Willian so divisive among Chelsea fans?

Hazard may be the most prolific chance creator this season, but his Chelsea teammate, Willian, is close behind.

Despite the seeming effectiveness of the Brazilian’s crossing and set-pieces this season, he remains a frustrating figure for the fans.

Of Willian’s 46 chances created in total, 30 have come from open play – still the seventh-most in the league.

However, it is not enough to convince some among the Stamford Bridge faithful who still pine for the winger to be sold, as was evident from the reaction to their latest Twitter post.
