Tottenham ended 2018 with defeat to Wolves, just days after they had been tipped to challenge for the Premier League title alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

The defeat saw Spurs drop down from second to third and brought the north London side back down to earth as a second-half drop in performance allowed the away side to leave Wembley with all three points.

It also ended a run of five straight wins which had initially boosted Spurs up to second, capitalising on poor results from Manchester City and Chelsea.

Cardiff, meanwhile, ended the year on a high with victory over Leicester to push them up to 16th, but Neil Warnock will know the fight against relegation will continue into 2019.

Spurs won the previous fixture between the two sides this season, a slender 1-0 victory at Wembley, as part of their good start to the campaign, winning six of their opening eight matches.

And they can expect an equally tricky fixture in Wales on Tuesday against a Cardiff side likely to smell blood following Wolves’ victory.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are still without Erik Lamela, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama with Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier also expected to miss the trip to Wales.
