Match preview
Tottenham ended 2018 with defeat to Wolves, just days after they had been tipped to challenge for the Premier League title alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.
The defeat saw Spurs drop down from second to third and brought the north London side back down to earth as a second-half drop in performance allowed the away side to leave Wembley with all three points.
It also ended a run of five straight wins which had initially boosted Spurs up to second, capitalising on poor results from Manchester City and Chelsea.
Cardiff, meanwhile, ended the year on a high with victory over Leicester to push them up to 16th, but Neil Warnock will know the fight against relegation will continue into 2019.
Spurs won the previous fixture between the two sides this season, a slender 1-0 victory at Wembley, as part of their good start to the campaign, winning six of their opening eight matches.
And they can expect an equally tricky fixture in Wales on Tuesday against a Cardiff side likely to smell blood following Wolves’ victory.

Could Spurs use 2019’s potential to make Mauricio Pochettino stay?
Spurs enter the New Year knowing they will be facing a fight to keep Mauricio Pochettino, with Manchester United looking for a permanent manager for the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
Pochettino has done a marvellous job at Spurs, turning the club from top six contenders to Champions League regulars, evening pushing Premier League title winners close on occasion. But Spurs do now need to take the next step under Pochettino, proving to the Argentinian that the new White Hart Lane will be the place for him to stay.
Weaknesses have been exposed in Tottenham and an over-reliance on Harry Kane still remains, with no adequate striking back up, but if they continue on Pochettino’s path, silverware could be on its way.
Head-to-head
Cardiff have not had the best of luck against Tottenham, winning just 11 of the 50 games between the two sides.
The Bluebirds’ last win against Spurs came over 30 years ago, a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup in 1977. However, the two sides have played just eight times since then, with Spurs winning six.
Cardiff wins: 11 Draws: 12 Tottenham wins: 27
Team news
Cardiff have no fresh injury doubts going into Tuesday’s game and Neil Warnock is likely to name a relatively unchanged side from the win over Leicester City, with only Kenneth Zohore, Jazz Richards and Danny Ward ruled out.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are still without Erik Lamela, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama with Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier also expected to miss the trip to Wales.
Predicted Cardiff XI: Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Cunningham; Arter, Gunnarsson, Camarasa; Hoilett, Paterson, Murphy
Predicted Tottenham XI: Lloris; Trippier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Rose; Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen; Moura, Son; Kane
