Former Red compared to Liverpool 'lionhearts' Carragher and Babb after goal-saving defending

Conor Coady has been compared to Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Phil Babb after heroic defending in their Boxing Day draw against Wolves.

Romain Saiss opened the scoring for Wolves in Boxing Day’s lunchtime kick-off, but Ryan Sessegnon succeeded in pulling one back for the Cottagers with 15 minutes left to go.

Fulham pressed for a winner towards the end of the game and they nearly got one when Aleksandar Mitrović fired a shot, which deflected over Rui Patricio and was about to roll over the goal line when Coady slid in at the last moment to heroically keep the ball out and his side in the game.

Following the game pundits were brimming with praise for the 25-year-old defender. Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher said Coady had the “heart of a lion” and compared him with Jamie Carragher:”I’m going to say this is a ‘Scouser’s defence’. He’s got that hear of a lion, Conor Coady.

“A brilliant piece of play, that is what you are looking for from your defender. It’s so brave, I don’t think Boly would have got it. Brilliant defending; Jamie Carragher used to do that all the time.”

Former Wolves ‘keeper Matt Murray was also full of praise for Coady and compared him to another former Liverpool defender Phil Babb: “It reminded me of that Phil Babb moment. A fantastic clearance. Coady was absolutely brilliant and it was a little bit of revenge on Mitrovic who had given him a tough time.”

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live former Fulham stopper Mark Schwarzer was also singing the Liverpoolborn defender’s praises: “Coady did brilliantly, he did really well to stay on his feet until the last moment, great defending.”
