Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggests Alexis Sanchez will return against Newcastle United in the new year.
United were missing Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial for their 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day.
Sanchez is already back in training, Lukaku is still on compassionate leave and Martial missed the game against the Terriers due to illness. However, all players should be back in January.
“Alexis is back. He flew in, he’s had two days of good fitness work. Hopefully, he can join in training with the ball as soon as we get back in,” Solskjaer said, according to the Evening Standard.
“It’s touch and go for Bournemouth, but he’ll definitely be involved at Newcastle.
“I’ve not had time to sit down and speak in detail, but of course we had a day off on Christmas Eve,” said the Norwegian.
“Christmas Day he was off, but he was in training, he’s eager to get back on the pitch. He’s a workaholic it seems like.”
Solskjaer added that it will take time for his side to adapt completely to his style of play, but he’s confident that they will continue to improve.
The Norwegian also offered an indirect warning to United’s upcoming opponents, telling them that when his side are 3-0 up they will have the attacking trio restored to the squad to really finish them off.
“You don’t in one week change anything but the mindset,” he said.
“I want my team to play in a certain way and you give them little pointers and it’s a work in progress.
“I just said to the staff, when you get 2-0 or 3-0 up next week we’ll have Sanchez, Martial and Lukaku.”
Solskjaer added: “It was a fantastic result. You like three points and some of the football was really, really good as well, so you can’t ask for more. Three goals at home, I could ask for a clean sheet, but we took about 20 minutes for us to settle.
“You’re playing against a team that makes it hard, too many touches, but after we got the goal we settled down and with a little sharpness towards the end could’ve finished the game off.”

Solskjaer’s United have scored eight goals in two games, the same number of goals that United scored during Jose Mourinho’s last four outings.
David Moyes, Lous van Gaal and Mourinho all attempted to impress their own methods on the club, all of which clashed with United’s established philosophy. The Red Devils went from an exciting side, famed for their electric play, to a boring team bereft of invention.
Instead of trying to impose a radically different style at Old Trafford, the 45-year-old treble winning legend has restored a playing style more befitting for the Red Devils. And while many predict his premiership in the dugout will only last until the summer, some believe he could be a good choice to take United forward for the foreseeable future.
Former United striker Louis Saha feels Solskjaer will want to prove he can lead the Reds for the long haul.
“He is there for the transition but I think he wants to prove that he is able to stay longer,” Saha said, according to Goal.
“Maybe he will try to build confidence in the first weeks or months, and why not build this aura that we are looking for, with stability and an identity, like the one we had with Sir Alex Ferguson.
“He was an offensive player, like Sir Alex Ferguson. I remember how focused he was during the training sessions.”
