Everton host Leicester City on Tuesday in a battle between two of the Premier League’s most out-of-form teams.

Everton go into the game having taken just four points from their last five games, conceding 13 goals in the process, including a 6-2 mauling at the hands of Tottenham in their previous home game. This has seen the Toffees drop to 10th in the table.

Leicester, meanwhile, are a point ahead of Everton in eighth place. Claude Puel’s side followed up their two impressive wins over Chelsea and Manchester City with a drab 1-0 home defeat to struggling Cardiff, making it three defeats in five for the Foxes.

The Toffees have conceded an eye-watering 14 goals in their last six games, with only Bournemouth conceding more, while Richarlison (nine) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (eight) have scored more than half of Everton’s Premier League goals this season.

Leicester are a point better off than Marco Silva’s side so far, but they have been equally inconsistent. 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Chelsea and Manchester City respectively were reminiscent of the Leicester that captured the hearts of English football in 2016, while the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff in their last game felt more like the Leicester performance that landed them in a relegation battle either side of that title win.

A top-six challenge is still within range, barely, but this season is looking more and more like one of mid-table obscurity and inconsistency; at least one side will prove that regardless of the result here.

Claude Puel has been vocal about the fatigue his Leicester side are suffering from and Daniel Amartey will be unavailable once again.

Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans were both ill for the Foxes’ game against Cardiff but could be in contention for their trip to Goodison Park.
