Everton host Leicester City on Tuesday in a battle between two of the Premier League’s most out-of-form teams.
Everton go into the game having taken just four points from their last five games, conceding 13 goals in the process, including a 6-2 mauling at the hands of Tottenham in their previous home game. This has seen the Toffees drop to 10th in the table.
Leicester, meanwhile, are a point ahead of Everton in eighth place. Claude Puel’s side followed up their two impressive wins over Chelsea and Manchester City with a drab 1-0 home defeat to struggling Cardiff, making it three defeats in five for the Foxes.

Match preview
If you ever wanted to watch a game of Jekyll and Hyde vs Jekyll and Hyde, be sure to tune into Everton vs Leicester City on New Year’s Day.
Everton followed up their 6-2 home humiliation at the hands of Tottenham with a 5-1 away thrashing of Burnley on Boxing Day, and just when Evertonians thought their side had turned around their form, they went and lost 1-0 away to Brighton.
The Toffees have conceded an eye-watering 14 goals in their last six games, with only Bournemouth conceding more, while Richarlison (nine) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (eight) have scored more than half of Everton’s Premier League goals this season.
Leicester are a point better off than Marco Silva’s side so far, but they have been equally inconsistent. 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Chelsea and Manchester City respectively were reminiscent of the Leicester that captured the hearts of English football in 2016, while the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff in their last game felt more like the Leicester performance that landed them in a relegation battle either side of that title win.
A top-six challenge is still within range, barely, but this season is looking more and more like one of mid-table obscurity and inconsistency; at least one side will prove that regardless of the result here.

How do Everton fans rate Marco Silva’s first half-season in charge?
Evertonians have always been known for wearing their hearts on their sleeves and making their feelings very clear.
Marco Silva’s first half-season in charge has seen Everton become a much more exciting and fluid attacking outfit – only the top six have scored more than their 31 goals this season – but regress in a defensive sense; the Toffees have conceded the second-most goals (14) of any Premier League side in the past six games.
There isn’t a ‘Silva out’ campaign yet, but large sections of the Everton fanbase are calling for a more consistent team selection and an end to Everton’s defensive openness.
Think the “Transitional Year” slogan needs to be binned, top teams regenerate quickly and develop fast, for Everton is worryingly inconsistent. Marco Silva can’t control a game to save his life.

But ey lads Marco Silva deserves time ey? And why does he deserve time exactly?
— Charlie Runkle (@EvertonianJamie) December 29, 2018
The worst thing about Marco Silva is that he makes it look like Sam Allardyce achieved a feat by guiding a poorer #Everton side to 8th in the Prem, under more challenging circumstances. Sam didn't get a preseason to assess the squad and had Williams, Jags and Baines in defence

God help Marco Silva if we don't get a result against Lincoln

Head-to-head
Tuesday’s game will be the 110th meeting between Everton and Leicester City in all competitions.

Everton wins: 42 Draws: 32 Leicester City wins: 35
Team news
Gylfi Sigurdsson only managed a substitute appearance in Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton but is likely to be brought back into the side as Marco Silva looks to him and Richarlison to provide Everton’s attacking spark.
Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman may return to the squad, with Everton having no new injury problems.
Claude Puel has been vocal about the fatigue his Leicester side are suffering from and Daniel Amartey will be unavailable once again.
Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans were both ill for the Foxes’ game against Cardiff but could be in contention for their trip to Goodison Park.
Predicted Everton XI: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne; Gueye, Gomes; Bernard, Sigurdsson, Walcott; Richarlison.
Predicted Leicester XI: Schmeichel; Pereira, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Ndidi, Mendy; Choudhury, Maddison, Albrighton; Vardy.
Squawka predictions
Inconsistency has been the only consistent feature of Everton and Leicester’s season so far and that will continue for at least one of these sides on Tuesday, with both losing their last game.
Both sides have plenty of firepower while both also look suspect at the back, so expect goals, with home advantage just about winning out.

Both Everton and Leicester come into the game off the back of losses in their final matches for 2018. Everton will be the more frustrated of the two sides due to their inconsistency, although the Foxes would have gone into the game with Cardiff last time out confident of a third consecutive win. Still, this contest between two top 10 teams gives the chance to consolidate their positions before the FA Cup break.
