Jamie Redknapp has tipped Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and make his England breakthrough.
The 18-year-old has already featured in 14 games for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this season, averaging 39 successful passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League – only Joao Moutinho (45.35) and Ruben Neves (47.29) have more.
Redknapp tips Gibbs-White for a big future: Five key things to know…
- Morgan Gibbs-White made his Wolves debut in January 2017, aged just 16.
- The midfielder was also part of the England squad which won the 2017 U17 World Cup.
- Gibbs-White has already made 13 Premier League appearances this season.
- Danny Murphy has compared the 18-year-old to Cesc Fabregas in the past.
- Jamie Redknapp and Matt Murray have joined Murphy in their praise for Gibbs-White, with Redknapp predicting him to be the next youngster to break into the England senior team.
His impressive start to life in the Premier League has led to many pundits predicting a big international future for the midfielder, and former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp is the latest to do so.
“He’s the next one to break into the England team, that’s how highly I rate this kid,” he told Sky Sports of the England U17 World Cup winner.
“He travels so well with the ball, he’s not afraid to go 1v1 or shoot from distance.
“The fact he’s playing at such an early age tells you everything you need to know about him.
“We’ve got a lot of talented players in this country at the moment, like Jadon Sancho, and he could be the next one.”
Gibbs-White tipped for a big move in the future
Former Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray joined Redknapp in his praise for Gibbs-White, calling the youngster ‘very special’ and tipping him for a move to a ‘bigger club’ in the future.
“He’s very, very special,” he said. “He won the World Cup with the U17s, scored a goal in the final.
“He was playing at 16 years of age, that doesn’t happen very often. The fact that Nuno is happy to play him in such big games and put him on instead of more experienced players shows you just how highly regarded he is.
“There will be bigger clubs looking at him, for sure.”
Nuno Espirito Santo has recently called for patience with Gibbs-White, saying his ‘humble attitude’ will help him improve even more over time.
