Lionel Messi has reaffirmed his happiness at Barcelona following Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments challenging him to move to Serie A.
The Argentinean star has been at Barcelona all his professional career and appears unlikely to leave despite Ronaldo recently saying he seek a new challenge abroad.
Messi has been at Barcelona since arriving in Spain from Newell’s Old Boys in 2001 after the Catalonian club agreed to pay his medical bills for a growth hormone deficiency.
The Argentina international has become one of world football’s leading lights, winning the Ballon d’Or five times while scoring 398 La Liga goals in just 433 appearances.
He is thought to be very settled at the club and is unlikely to leave. However, Ronaldo, who ended a decade at Real Madrid to join Juventus this summer, said recently, “I hope Messi accepts the challenge like me.”
Messi responded by stating that he has new challenges every year at Barcelona slamming the door on any talk of him moving.
“Accepting Ronaldo’s challenge to join Italian football? I don’t need any change,” Messi told Marca.
“I’m at the best team in the world. My challenges are renewed year after year. I do not need to change teams or leagues to set new goals. I am at home and I do not need to change.”

Since joining Barcelona Lionel Messi has broken countless records for the Catalan giants.
He has made a habit of destroying long-standing historical markers while building a legacy that will be very hard to beat.

With more than two years left on his contract, it is highly likely Messi will add to these milestones and help Barca win more honours. They currently top the La Liga table with a three-point cushion between themselves and second-place Atletico.
