Former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince has urged his old club to sign Borussia Dortmund and England starlet Jadon Sancho in the January transfer window.
Sancho, 18, has emerged as one of the most talented young players in Europe since leaving Manchester City for Dortmund in August 2017.
Do Liverpool need Sancho? Five things to know…
- Liverpool’s fearsome front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have scored 29 goals between them across all competitions so far this season.
- However, the Reds lack depth in the attacking areas and could be tempted to add another forward to their ranks in January.
- Sancho has scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in 24 appearances this term.
- The teenager is expected to become an England regular in the coming years and would give Liverpool another option out wide.
- He would also add to the Premier League leaders’ home-grown quota – Sancho has already made three appearances for England.
Sancho is one of many young English players to try their hand in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years. His success in Germany and for the Three Lions will make rumours of a return to the Premier League inevitable.
And Ince, who played for Liverpool between 1997-1999, believes Jurgen Klopp should consider a move for Sancho next month.
“I think when you look at Sancho, let’s not go overboard. He’s only 18,” Ince told the Express.
“We don’t want to make these players better than what they are the moment, they’re still only young and have a long way to go.
“We as a nation have a tendency to build people up from such a young age and then knock them back down.
Jadon Sancho has completed more take-ons (41) than any other player in the Bundesliga so far this season.

“I feel with Sancho, the boy’s done well and he’s been brave to make that decision to go and play in Germany.
“He needs to keep playing games until he’s 19 or 20. Then maybe Liverpool should start looking at him.
“And not just him, there’s other kids out there [in Germany] doing well.”
Is Sancho on par with Liverpool’s front three?
Remarkably, Sancho statistics are superior to Liverpool’s front three in a number of areas.
The teenager has created more chances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season (2.99) than Salah (2.75), Mane (1.61) and Firmino (1.6) have in the Premier League.
He has also provided more assists per 90 minutes (0.77) than all three of those players.
However, Salah comes out on top when it comes to goals scored (0.83) and shots on target (1.93) per 90 minute. Find out more with Squawka Rankings.
