Juventus moved 11 points clear at the top of Serie A thanks to a 1-0 win over Inter Milan.
After an exciting, but goalless, first half Juventus took the lead through Mario Mandzukic with a good run and header at the far post.
And that would prove to be the deciding goal of the game as Juventus held on with some brilliant, and expected, defensive work.
Here’s how the players rated from Friday night’s exciting Derby d’Italia.
Juventus
Wojciech Szczesny – 6 – The Polish goalkeeper commanded his box well dealing with everything thrown at him from crosses. Was fortunate not to concede, however, with Inter hitting the post in the first half.
Mattia De Sciglio – 7 – The quieter of Juve’s two full-backs in terms of attack, De Sciglio did well to limit the affect Asamoah and Perisic could have and well deserving of his clean sheet.
Leonardo Bonucci – 8 – Barely put a foot wrong in the heart of Juve’s defence, resuming his formidable partnership with Chiellini.
Giorgio Chiellini – 10 – You couldn’t accuse Chiellini of not being up for this game. The Italian centre-back was brilliant, mopping up everything in front of Szczesny while also troubled Inter’s goal with some powerful headers. Unbeatable, unbelievable and still one of the best centre-backs in the world.
Joao Cancelo – 9 – Looked strong going forward, combining with Ronaldo but not playing on his favoured side did hinder Cancelo slightly in the first half. It made no difference after the break, with the Portuguese cutting in and crossing for Mandzukic’s opener.
João Cancelo’s game by numbers vs. Inter Milan:
81 touches
49 passes (85% accuracy)
7 crosses
3 take ons completed
3 chances created
2 tackles
2 interceptions

Blaise Matuidi – 8 – Solid in midfield, in a hotly contested first-half battle. Was fortunate to not see an error punished just after half-time when his misplace pass just outside his own area played in Inter. But that should not take away from the Frenchman’s game as he helped dominate in the latter stages.
Miralem Pjanic – 7 – Initially looked as though he would be in for a tough game, getting booked early on for two fouls but the Bosnian stepped up and did well in a tough midfield battle.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – Combined well with his full-back to defend high against Asamoah, ensuring the Inter man had little time to move the ball out from the back.
Paulo Dybala – 7 – The Argentine was Juventus’ bright spark in the first half, having their first two chances of the game and continuing to look like their best option. Taken off with Allegri looking to cement the win.
Paulo Dybala’s game by numbers vs. Inter Milan:
48 touches
25 passes
5 crosses
5 fouls won
4 shots
3 chances created
1 take on completed

Mario Mandzukic – 7 – Had a quiet start but slowly grew into the first half, drifting around to allow Ronaldo the control of the attack. Took his chance midway through the second half, heading in Cancelo’s cross at the far post.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 6 – Was dangerous in patches but had a tough challenge up against Vrsaljko. Uncharacteristically quiet as others took the spotlight.
Substitutions:
Douglas Costa (for Dybala 72) – 6 – Gave Juve added structure defensively and pace on the counter, though did not have to do too much.
Emre Can (for Pjanic 82) – 6 – Helped solidify Juventus’ lead.
Inter Milan
Samir Handanovic – 7 – Produced a great save to deny Chiellini from giving Juventus the lead with a header. Could not do anything to prevent Mandzukic scoring from close range.
Sime Vrsaljko – 7 – Got forward a bit in the first half but his memorable contributions came defensively as he did well to prevent the Ronaldo-Cancelo pairing from causing too much trouble. Aside from allowing Cancelo to get his cross in for the goal, did equally as good in the second half to keep Ronaldo quiet.
Milan Skriniar – 6 – Looked comfortable at the back, with a good understanding alongside Vrsaljko. But could do nothing as Juventus took control of the game.
Miranda – 5 – Good, but slightly less tested of the centre-back pairing. Was almost caught out close to his own goal line, trying to play the ball from the back but Juventus missed the resulting chance. In the second half his performance seemed to drop quite a bit, allowing Juve in.
Kwadwo Asamoah – 4 – Possibly Inter’s weakest link in the first half, Asamoah had a busy game with Juventus favouring his side to attack. Once again after half-time Asamoah was targeted with Mandzukic getting in behind him to head in.
Roberto Gagliadini – 6 – When so close to giving Inter the lead after half an hour, latching onto Icardi’s neat pass but his shot, which beat Szczesny, hit the post. Overworked a bit in the second half, allowing the midfield to get away from him.
Marcelo Brozovic – 8 – The Croatian had a brilliant first half, appearing to win every 50/50 battle he entered, providing insane blocks all while running the midfield for Inter. Got booked early into the second half which disrupted his game.
Joao Mario – 7 – Seemed to be everywhere for Inter, happy to drop deep before moments later seeing the ball around Juventus’ area. Switched out wide after an hour but then sacrificed with 15 minutes to go as Inter chased an equaliser.
Matteo Politano – 7 – Caused some problems down Inter’s right with his crosses while also providing good width going forward. Unlucky to be taken off first for Inter after an hour.
Mauro Icardi – 5 – It was his cute pass which set up Gagliadini’s effort in the first half but Icardi was largely non-existent after that. Had just 19 touches of the ball and no shots.
Ivan Perisic – 5 – Got forward a bit but did not enjoy too much luck, failing to hit the target with any of his four shots on goal.
Substitutions:
Borja Valero (for Politano 58) – 6 – His introduction did cut down Inter’s threat going forward on the wings but Valero did his best to add some creativity.
Keita Balde (for Gagliardini 70) – 5 – Brought on to try and get Inter back into the game but he could not do too much.
Lautaro Martinez (for Mario 77) – 5 – Struggled to get into the game with big expectations on his shoulders. A poor volley wide in injury time wasted Inter’s last chance.
