Two players out, two return: Klopp reveals Liverpool team news for Bournemouth clash

Liverpool pair Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren will not be able to take part in the Reds’ clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Both players missed the midweek win at Burnley and it appears neither will recover in time to play a part on the south coast this weekend.

Mane sustained a cut on his foot in Liverpool’s Merseyside derby win over Everton last Sunday and has been unable to train normally since.

The winger is expected to begin running again on Friday but is unlikely to play a part against the Cherries.

“Sadio is now out [at Melwood] and tries to run [for the] first time,” Klopp told reporters at Melwood on Friday.

“That doesn’t sound like he will be ready for tomorrow. Hopefully, he can finish the programme today we did for him.”

Lovren was not able to face either Everton or Burnley, and Klopp has revealed that the centre-back is still not ready to return to action.

He added: “No, he will not be available. He got a knock last week and got a concussion. He is still not able to play.”

Joe Gomez is also out after sustaining a fracture to his leg in the win against Burnley on Wednesday, meaning Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are the teams’ only fit centre-backs.

Gini Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson available for selection again

There was more positive news regarding the availability of midfielder Gini Wijnaldum and left-back Andy Robertson, with both players set to start against Eddie Howe’s side on Saturday.

The pair missed Wednesday’s trip to Turf Moor, but Klopp says both were just given time to rest ahead of a busy festive schedule.

“Gini is nothing – he did his own programme [this week] and is fine,” he explained.

“Robbo played pretty much most of the games, in a very intense position. That’s why we decided to give him eight hours off. That was actually the only thing, he was not in Burnley.

“He trained in the morning and went home. He couldn’t watch the game [on TV]; he was sitting in front of the radio or whatever and came back. He is fine.”

Aside from long-term absentees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster, both Nathaniel Clyne and Dominic Solanke are both still sidelined with minor issues.
