Man City legend’s contract terminated three months into spell with new club

Former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has had his contract terminated by Olympiacos after just three months.

The Greek outfit are currently third in the league and say they have “mutually agreed” to end Toure’s contract with the club.

  • Yaya Toure left Man City in July after his contract was not renewed
  • The midfielder scored no goals in five appearances across all competitions for the club
  • Toure’s agent teased he would move to a London club following City departure
  • The Ivorian re-signed with former club Olympiacos in September
  • Toure played 223 minutes in three months with the Greek side

This was Toure’s second spell with Olympiacos having spent a year with them during the 2005-06 season.

It remains to be seen whether he will look to join a new club before the end of the year.

An Olympiacos statement confirming the news read:

Olympiacos FC and Yaya Touré would like to announce to the fans that they have mutually agreed to end their cooperation.

Yaya is and remains an important member of the Olympiacos family, who has marked a central part of the history of the club. Olympiacos would like to thank him for everything he has offered to the Club.

Yaya will remain deeply devoted to the Club and wishes to Olympiacos lots of success.
Yaya is leaving as a friend and the doors at Olympiacos will always be open for him. Our paths will surely cross again.

Yaya Toure’s career so far

Toure’s career in the game looks to be nearing an end. Aside from Olympiacos, the Ivorian has represented the likes of Monaco, Barcelona and Manchester City.

It was his first spell with the Greek side where Toure managed to make a name for himself and eventually earn himself a transfer to Ligue 1 side Monaco.

He went on to make 74 appearances for Barcelona after signing for the Catalan giants in the summer of 2007, but it was his spell at Manchester City that he will be most remembered for.

Toure was widely considered to be the best midfielder in the Premier League for some time and was one of the first signings City made following their investment from Sheikh Mansour.

He left the club following their record breaking title winning campaign last season and was without a club until Olympiacos offered him the chance to return to the club for the second time.
