Arjen Robben proud his ‘trademark move’ is still so successful

Arjen Robben has said he is “very proud” his trademark move is still yielding results in the latter stages of his career.

Throughout his career, Robben has had success cutting in from the right onto his stronger left foot and finding the net.

Why is Robben’s trademark move unstoppable? Four key things to know…

  1. Robben almost always cuts inside onto his left foot, which for most players would result in being found out by opposition defenders.
  2. However, Robben’s predictability is offset by his quick footwork and ability to make room for a shot.
  3. Consequently, the Bayern Munich forward continues to use the move with great success at the age of 35.
  4. Robben has scored five goals in 15 appearances this term in what will be in his final season as a Bayern player.

Robben is set to come up against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, a side he faced a number of times during his spell at Chelsea.

Speaking to The Guardian ahead of the game, the Dutchman was asked about his trademark move and spoke with pride about the fact it still seems to be working.

“I can be very proud of that because people say it’s like your own move, running inside and scoring a goal,” Robben said.

“It’s something I have been doing throughout the years and, well, it’s still successful.”

Robben: Return to England possible

Robben’s 10-year stay at Bayern is set to come to an end this summer after the 35-year-old announced he will not be renewing his contract with the German giants.

Earlier in his career, Bayern spent three seasons with Chelsea, scoring 19 goals in 105 seasons before leaving for Real Madrid.

And the former Netherlands international has admitted a return to England could be on the cards.

He added: “I’m now 35, that’s not young any more, not in football at least. I’m still there playing as a winger at one of the best clubs in Europe, so that’s something quite special.

“I’ve always said that, as long as I enjoy it and physically feel good enough to perform at the level I want to, then I will continue.

“I am also still curious where I will be next year. Maybe England, maybe Spain, maybe somewhere else: it can be anywhere. We will see.”
