The Champions League has hit the knockout stages and things are starting to get serious.
Liverpool endured an incredibly tough group stage campaign to get this far, finishing second to PSG after losing all of their away games to the French champions, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade respectively.
Their reward? A clash with German giants and Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.
The Bavarians found things a little more straightforward in Group E, taking 14 points from their six games and remaining unbeaten against Ajax, Benfica and AEK Athens.
However, with many of Bayern’s star players now entering the twilight of their careers and Liverpool in absolutely rampant form in the Premier League for most of this season, many are tipping Jurgen Klopp to get one over on his old foe and guide the Merseysiders into the quarter-finals.
Virgil van Dijk’s suspension for the first leg complicates matters and how Liverpool will cope with the substantial threat of Robert Lewandowski will certainly turn a few heads, but a front-three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is certainly enough to have Bayern checking over their shoulders in fear.
The form of that trident heading into this match will be key, with the trio bagging 44 goals between them so far this season, while Bayern have already conceded 26 goals in the Bundesliga so far this term, having only let in 28 in the whole of 2017/18.
Can Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule and Co. deal with the threat of Klopp’s deadly strikeforce? And will Liverpool’s backline cope without the imperious presence of Van Dijk?
