Pulisic backs Sarri to turn things around at Chelsea

Christian Pulisic has backed Maurizio Sarri to turn around Chelsea’s poor form after the American’s parent club lost 6-0 at Manchester City.

Pulisic signed for Chelsea in January before being immediately loaned back to Borussia Dortmund, but watched his new team concede 10 goals without reply in their last two domestic away games.

What has happened to Chelsea? Five key things to know…

  1. Early in the season, Chelsea appeared to be the closest team to Manchester City and Liverpool in terms of challenging for the Premier League title.
  2. They are now sixth in the table, 15 points behind leaders City and one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
  3. The Blues bounced back from a shock 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth with a 5-0 home victory over Huddersfield Town.
  4. But their away troubles continued with a 6-0 defeat at City on Sunday.
  5. Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Malmo this week was their first away victory in any competition in 2019.

Questions are beginning to be asked about Sarri’s future at the club with the Italian’s critics suggesting he has no plan B when the chips are down.

But Pulisic believes Sarri and Chelsea will turn around their form soon.

“They’ve had some tough results but I know they’re going to work it out,” Pulisic told reporters.

“They’re a great team with great players, a good coach, so they’re going to figure everything out.”

Pulisic “looking forward” to Premier League life despite Spurs humbling

Pulisic got a taste of Premier League life on Wednesday night, losing 3-0 against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the Champions League.

Despite the result, the 20-year-old said going up against a team of Spurs’ quality made him look forward to playing in England.

Pulicic said: “Tottenham’s a great side. It’s good to play against great competition in any league, but I’m definitely looking forward to next season.”

He went on to insist Dortmund are confident about turning around their 3-0 deficit in the second leg.

“This team’s never going to give up, especially going home,” Pulisic added. “We’re confident we can score three goals.

“It’s not going to be easy – I’m not going to stand here and say we’re going to win – but we’re going to go out there, we’re going to fight and we believe. That’s all we can do.”
