Deadline day has been crueler to some than others, with a number of players across the Premier League having to make do with staying put despite expecting January moves.
Some on this list are established players, others are just at the start of their careers and a few are, well, just barely getting a look in.
So with the transfer window now slammed shut, we’ve listed the players who were as disappointed with their deadline day as us.
Danny Drinkwater
The Englishman has played just 31 minutes of first-team football this term for Chelsea and yet no one came in for his signature this transfer deadline day.
It’s thought his £100,000 per week salary is off-putting to would-be suitors. Irrespective of the situation, the midfielder isn’t rated by Sarri in his favoured 4-3-3 system. The manager has previously said he’s “not a central midfielder”, at least not one able to play in one of the pivot roles or the deep-lying one.
Bojan Krkic
Bojan has seen his playing time dwindle at Stoke City this season, making just 15 appearances in all competitions.
In two-and-a-half seasons the Spaniard’s made just 23 league appearances, after the former Barca man has faced injuries and multiple loans.
The 28-year-old had reportedly had interest from Sivasspor in Turkey, the MLS, Serie A and the Bundesliga.
West Brom also sought to sign the 28-year-old with talks taking place, however Stoke have not sanctioned any move and manager Nathan Jones has confirmed Bojan is in his plans this season.
Vincent Janssen
The Dutchman hasn’t played for Spurs since 2017, and unsuccessful loans in Turkey and a long-term injury have curtailed his career further.
Pochettino doesn’t favour the striker and has made it clear he’s not in his plans, despite the injury to Harry Kane; Pochettino gave minutes to Kazaiah Sterling, a 20-year-old youth player, over giving game time to Janssen.
In the end loan deals to Real Betis, Schalke and a permanent move to Cardiff didn’t come through and now the Dutchman’s looking at at least another six months in the proverbial wilderness.
Callum Hudson-Odoi
The Chelsea youngster definitely wanted to force through a move to Bayern Munich, who ultimately lodged four bids for the 18-year-old – the last one being £35m – before being told by Chelsea the Wandsworth-born lad was not for sale.
The winger, who turned down an improved £85,000 per week pay packet and has made 15 appearances for the Blues, scoring twice, has been reprimanded for handing in a transfer request, with Sarri dropping the precocious talent for Chelsea’s calamitous 4-0 loss to Bournemouth.
Bayern are expected to come back in for the player in the summer.
Radja Nainggolan
Nainggolan is disappointed in the sense that he’s burned all sorts of bridges at Inter already and he’s only been there six months.
The Belgian has played 11 games so far for the San Siro club but was recently suspended for turning up late for training. He’s also been caught drinking in Milan in the late hours, when he was confronted by an Inter fan.
There’s also a leaked phone call of him slating Inter fans and saying he wants a return to Roma.
Seems safe to assume he might have wished a rogue loan deal might have been sorted at the very least.
Idriss Gueye
Everton midfielder Idriss Gueye will certainly be a bit miffed, as PSG had a bid of £21.5m rejected by the Toffees hierarchy, despite the 29-year-old being keen on a move out of the club.
Gueye was reported to have handed in an official transfer request, although this was disputed by the club itself.
The Senegal international, who has featured in 20 league games this term, will now have to make do with at least another six months on Merseyside.
Eddie Nketiah
The Arsenal teenager thought he was going to Germany, like club teammate Reiss Nelson, except it never got that far.
Despite preparing to undergo medical tests at Augsburg, he’s now staying with Arsenal after Emery blocked the move in light of the collapsing Persic and Carrasco deals.
Nketiah made himself something of an Arsenal hero when he scored the winner against Norwich in the FA Cup, but his game time has been severely limited for the most part.
