Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes the club’s upcoming fixture schedule is “completely unfair” for a team with title ambitions.
The north London club’s current uncertainty over the future of their new stadium has already caused some havoc to their match schedules and is set to do so again in the future.
Spurs were meant to move into the new White Hart Lane at the start of the season but the opening has been delayed with the club instead having to play at Wembley Stadium for the foreseeable future.
Other events going on at Wembley has also seen Spurs face Watford in the Carabao Cup at another ‘home’ stadium using MK Dons’ Stadium MK.
And more double-booking of Wembley sees Spurs set to play four games in nine days from the end of October, something Pochettino is not happy about.
“The circumstances this season are so tough,” he told reporters (via the Telegraph).
“Look what is going to happen in the Carabao Cup. We are going to play Monday in Wembley against Manchester City and then we must play on Wednesday or Thursday, and then we must play Saturday and Tuesday in the Champions League.
“That is completely unfair for a team that wants to win some titles.
“Of course, we need to deal with that and that is why this will be the most difficult season for us.”
Starting at home against Manchester City on Monday October 29, a game which has had to be delay by 24 hours due to Wembley hosting the NFL, Spurs must then face West Ham United in the Carabao Cup either on the Wednesday or Thursday, before then taking on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 3. The quick turnover of fixtures ends with a Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, November 6.
The date for the opening of New White Hart Lane is still to be revealed with some fans wishing the club would postpone the move now until the end of the season to give their team some continuity
